So my son (10th grader) informs me that tonight, to kick off spring break, he knows of a local party at one house involving 17 kids, and another lake house party with 40 kids (he's not going to either). Disturbing. Even worse the parents allowing this. This will perpetuate the disease. Is this happening elsewhere?

Can you report it to local authorities?

Tempting. As of now he won't give me the parent's names. Work in progress. As dad battles COVID-19 in the hospital. Insane.

Could be that these parties are not sanctioned by adults. Also, if you know where these are taking place, you could always send the cops over and break it up for violating city ordinance, that is if there is an ordinance in place where you live.

Hopefully they do something stupid like boom the music really loud in the neighborhood. The cops should be on there way if that's the case.

And just think, some people want to give 16 year olds the ability to vote.

Is this finally our chance as millenials to look down at the younger generation?

Damn kids

Have them hurry up & pass this through the teenage population and then it's over.

Don't worry, millennials are just as guilty of this behavior out here in SF.

Protracted social distancing is not a viable strategy, these teens are just the first to start the inevitable non-compliance.

I 100% recognize that the present situation is quite unique, but the idea that teenagers getting together to party in the face of ordinances, laws, rules, or societal norms saying that they shouldn't is novel or new just seems to lack perspective.

I am not saying that I agree with it, but it's just how it's always been and seemingly always will be - even in times of escalated risk and extenuating circumstances.

"lack perspective". Wow. totally disagree. This is "act of God times". Parents need to intervene.

Sip logic. You would be correct if the point of it was to stop the virus completely

Maybe "lack perspective" wasn't the best choice of words on my part, I'll own that.

I just think that we are talking about an age of people that generally don't fully see the ramifications of their actions. And I agree that parents should step in here. I think that there is a larger discussion on the decisions of teenagers and parents stepping in that I am trying to avoid to not detract from the serious situation at hand. So, again, I own that and probably should have just left it alone in hindsight.

Yeah I get it. Their brains are "different." But. There has to be some parent culpability.

More evidence this entire approach was poor to begin with.

My teens are 19, 17, and 15. They are understand, and I am very proud of them. I have told them that they can do whatever they want, but if they hang out with friends, they may not come home. They like food. #parenting

Kids are ignorant, naive, lack experience and wisdom. They don't appreciate the magnitude of risks and dangers and the consequences of their actions fully. It's simply the way human beings are. We suffer, we learn, and mostly, we mature and gain some measure of wisdom.

This isn't what the actual data is telling us.... if we're lucky and it only has a mortality rate of 0.5% it would most likely kill someone you know.

From my understanding the chance of EVERY person getting it is nearly impossible as those that recover would have immunity and then would slow down the rapid spread maxing out around 50% of the population IF we weren't taking the steps we've been taking to stop the spread.

It's disturbing here in California while truly walking six feet apart from friends (not even petting to greet each other's dogs) we walk past a park and a school with bunches of high school age boys playing basketball. (Hello, NBA guys?). We adults are either not able to work or working from home so why let kids go hang out together?

Even worse are the Pickleball parents who are at same parks playing together with zero change in habits. Pretty clearly it's their kids also ignoring the state mandates.

I've been living it and it's just not that hard. You can't drink a cocktail and enjoy conversation with a friend 6 feet away? We are doing it without problem in California.

I don't make my own cocktails. A bartender does it for me, until now. That's the point.
