Is it possible for a postal carrier to transmit the virus. Let's say my neighbor down the street coughed in their hand and then opened their mailbox. Virus is now on the handle. Postal carrier comes by, opens the door, then drives down the street opening all of the doors. I then come home and open my mailbox. Is it possible it could be transmitted in this manner?

I had the same question. I've been immediately getting mail, throwing away junk and then washing my hands thoroughly right after. With our luck, nobody in the federal government has even thought about this potential problem.

there is evidence suggesting it can live on cardboard boxes for up to 3 days.

Dr Nicol Sapphire on Fox News is opening mail outside and even leaving some unopened for a few days.

Very unlikely mode of transmission but nothing wrong with being careful.

Wash your hands and try not to lick your mail.

If it's that big of a concern for you, you can leave the box in direct sunlight and let the UV rays kill it. Won't take more than 30 minutes if the lights shining right on it.

Or Lysol. Just spray it before you bring it in.

I quarantine my mail for two days and immediately wash my hands after bringing it in the house. No joke.

Of course it's possible. You can make up any scenario where an infected person has it on his or her hands, touches something that you later touch, and then infect yourself by rubbing your nose. That's why you wash your hands constantly and don't touch your face. The virus is NOT absorbed through the skin as a method of transmission.

We thought of this and have basically been sanitizing anything that comes in our house. Junk mail immediately thrown away, keep mail and packages getting Lysoled in the laundry room, and for groceries, everything in a sealed package gets cloroxed and any produce gets washed immediately. Then of course thorough hand washing.

The USPS handles how many thousands of pieces of mail? Your one piece of mail happens to be sneezed upon by an infected postal worker, just as they place it in your mailbox. At which point you retrieve it a few seconds later, and immediately rub your face after grabbing the mail?

Think Mythbusters would debunk this.

If you're using the CDC study, it was 24 hours for cardboard, and 3 days on hard surfaces.

There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

I throw away all junk mail & put my bills in a separate pile & set them on fire. Just to be sure no corona.
