I was laid off last Thursday and haven't been successful in applying for unemployment online thus far. Has anyone here successfully filed recently?

What is the problem? Will the site load? Will it not submit your info?

Don't have advice for you in terms of the website, but sorry to hear that. Keep your head up. I've been out of work before, and it sucks. I know it's scary not knowing the future. You have to find ways to stay positive and realize that this is a season that is temporary. We're going to get this turned around.

Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of health care workers and researchers around the US and world are working tirelessly on this. We have taken a few punches from this virus but it and we both know we will eventually kick it's ass. We don't know the exact time frame in which that will occur, but it WILL happen. We WILL be back going again soon.

I can get up to the point where I enter my PIN and the site says I have to call. I've called several dozen times today and was unable to get through. The system is flooded at the moment.

Our company has suspended hiring for the time being due to the pandemic sorry to say that's probably pretty common.

When I was laid off, I went to the unemployment office in person, and I got done much more quickly.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Doesn't sound like a fixable problem then. I hope you're able to get through.

Sorry to here of your misfortune but keep your head up. The Bible always says " and it came to pass" , it never says " and it came to stay". This to will pass.

Was "separated "from my company last week. Got some severance but it will run out in May. Can I start the process now or do I need to wait. Maybe unemployment check will help cover COBRA.

Start the process now. It takes some time for the unemployment office to get moving and in this current situation, they are probably slammed.

Thank you for your sentiments. It's tough to stay positive but I know it will pass. It just feels like a perfect storm. I was laid off from my first job out of school in July 2001 and moved back to Houston a week after 9/11. A month later, Enron hit. It took a long time to find something good after that.

I'm gonna throw out some unsolicited advice for all of you and yours who are now unemployed.

1) Sounds like you're doing the right thing, filing for unemployment asap. Good. Make sure someone at the state is aware of the website issues, but also make sure your former employer did their part. If they did not, then the state could say you are not eligible for unemployment.
2) I'd stay away from COBRA, unless you got a massive severance package. I encourage you to explore catastrophic only healthcare coverage for this interim time. That coverage would help with the big bills, should they arise, but you pay cash for the small stuff. Depend on GoodRX and others to shop your prescription purchases.
3) Last but not least, visit daveramsey.com and read the free articles that may apply to you. Also find your way to one of his Health Insurance ELP (endorsed local provider) who can advise you on the best way to max out your insurance money given your current situation.

For those that will receive any sort of severance, always try and negotiate as a one-time lump sum vs continuation of pay. A lump sum will allow for you to immediately be eligible for unemployment. Typically a "continuation of pay" will result in deferral of UE benes until the continued pay is over.

I finally got thru online after a week of steady effort multiple times a day. Randomly got thru early this past Saturday morning. Every time I called I got the same "we are experiencing extreme call volume, please try our online options" and then it hung up on me. Try your best to remain calm and keep at it...most of all, Good luck.

This gives me hope. Do you call which number you called on Saturday and were able to reach someone? I've been trying 800-939-6631 mostly but I've also been trying 877-915-6400 about 1/3 as much.

I was never able to get a live person trying the 800 number. I was only successful with my application online.

I think I've created a mess for myself and hopefully the collective power of TexAgs can help me pull my fat out of the fire.

So pretty much exactly seven years ago I lost my job and filed for unemployment. Did it online and it was actually pretty easy. Of course I didn't save any of my log-on information - didn't think I'd need it again!!

So the other day I got on the site and couldn't remember the log on information and somehow now (not sure how I did it) I think I've created a second user ID using the same social security number. Not sure how it would even allow me to do that. Anyway, I can't seem to get it fixed myself without getting technical help. And, so far it's been impossible to get through to anyone on the phone. I used the email address that Marauder Blue 6 provided. But who knows if/when I'll get a reply.

Question - is the only other way to apply to go to a TWC office? Has anyone done it this way - I'm sure it's a nightmare. Can you do it via regular mail? I'm not is dire need of the cash right now. I've got some severance that should get me through May (or close). Just wanted to get the ball rolling. What a doofus I am.
