I had no idea there are potentially so many "silent carriers" out there who are positive but asymptomatic and nonetheless potentially contagious. Yet another reason we need mass testing regardless of symptoms. This is an extremely sly, clever pathogen. Is this report borne out in US stats?

Ok, so stay in my house until 2025 then? Sounds great.

7 billion tests? That would take years.

I'm gonna hold you to this. Don't come out until everyone is tested.

You can't expect to stop 100% of cases. By isolating the most vulnerable, testing care givers, and then doing simple things like fever checks in public, you can likely cut the spread dramatically. Most of the country is locked down. I think it's fair to start talking about what the next stage is.

This comment is not surprising. Just wait until he/she learns that there is a high chance this will be a normal rotational virus going forward.

Might as well just stop all civilization going forward other than testing.

How do you feel about riots, looting, and anarchy?

Serious question...

This is one of the reasons that isolating the elderly would be completely ineffective. That and our inability to widespread test.
I don’t say this in a braggedocious way. But it’s true. I’ve been right about everything.

Testing is a snapshot in time for a virus like this.

Everyday preventative measures should be the paramount focus right now which not only includes better sanitary practices but also that our underlying health is a major factor to fight off these viruses along with potential vaccines (which may or may not work from season to season).

Please only take my comments as opinion but Dr. Rev is guiding many on this forum the right way in recommending readily available, GRAS supplements like Quercetin and zinc to everyone to add to their daily intake of vitamins and minerals. Prevention does not only come through immunization but also through modification of our diets and lifestyles.

Geez, just my opinion folks... I am not a public official and do not have any communication with any of them. My opinion matters 0.0%. Most hot spot areas are saying they would have SIP'd sooner and they're still SIP. My guess is SIP is here to stay for the foreseeable future. Trying to change my mindset and get used to the idea. I bet we could test everyone well before 2025, BadMoon. Not in favor of a collapsed society or riots/anarchy, FireAg. It seems like most of the experts are saying SIP, test, quarantine the infected and then return to controlled normal with social distancing.

The problem is those experts your talking about did not sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

They've talked about how many asymptomatic carriers there have been for a week+ now.

Which is why I've felt like this half-measure "less than 250 people, less than 50 people, etc..." was not as effective as we needed it to be -- only the people who were constantly keeping up-to-date on this virus really even knew what the reality of it was.

I'd bet a third of the US population still assumes that as long as someone isn't coughing and as long as those coughing don't cough on them, that there is no risk being around them.

You've got plenty of anecdotal evidence of posts in this forum alone from people who didn't really realize the neighborhood kids playing together wasn't OK as long as they weren't sick.

There's a lot of things botched in this whole pandemic, but one of the biggest has been actually getting clear information to the American people about what the reality of the situation was.

Sorry to be blunt, but how are you just now hearing about asymptomatic cases? This has been on every credible news coverage since the outbreak began in our country.

Legit question. What is the primary means of transmission by asymptomatic carriers, since I understand coughing is the primary means of "shedding" the virus? Close enough to inhale their breath?

Define social distancing as a controlled normal.

Did you practice this before COVID-19 or did you live your life and get sick occasionally and treat your ailments as they presented themselves?

I would guess that when they sneeze or get saliva on their hands and touch stuff or other people.

Seriously think about what you are proposing. Shelter in place every stay away from everyone except we also want everyone to come to locations where we KNOW people with the virus are just to see if you may or may not have it. Oh come back in two weeks because you maybe have gotten in last time getting tested. and keep coming back until you test positive.

idiotic.
Palovic

Okay. So are you stating that every season going forward for the rest of our lives, social distancing as a controlled normal will stop the virus from spreading when it re-emerge as it's current strain and or a new strain?

Schools shut down, restaurants close their dining rooms and lay off half their seasonal staff, businesses are all work from home, we all do drive up testing, public services optimize staff or cut half?

This controlled normal?

We both know that none of this is a good idea for businesses, the economy, the stock market, global trade, etc. I'm just saying it's probably going to happen so we better get used to the idea.

Yes. If I was a betting man, then I bet that this is the new normal until at least Labor Day weekend.

Im not even talking about that. Im talking about the logic of it.

1. They want us to social distance as much as possible.

YET

2. They want everyone to get tested. You have to go get tested at places where people are all coming to. Someone there will have it and spread it. So you are asking people who dont have it to go to where people do have it. All to take a test.

If you do that and test negative. They will want you to come back because you will then have been to place where someone was that tested positive.

That cycle will continue until you finally do get it and test positive.

ETA: This whole approach has been to flatten the curve. How the heck are you going to flatten the curve by bring people to locations with people with the virus. Like I said. Its idiotic.

Well my hope is for everyone to be perfectly healthy, rich, live long happy lives but reality is much different and we must live within our reality. Reality is this is a very contagious virus and keeping away from people is the best bet to reduce the influx of patients to the hospitals. So im staying away from people. Definitely not going to a place where people with the virus are going. DUH.

According to CDC:
Some spread might be possible before people show symptoms; there have been reports of this occurring with this new coronavirus, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.
