I live in Collin County and support the decision. The county judge stated you should practice social distancing and get up, go to work, and go home. No socializing in between.
I own a small company and it would be hard for me to keep my employees if they are forced to stay at home and not work.
We have very few outside customers and we sanitize our door and conference room before and after each customer. I think comparable in qty of people, Collin has done a great job in controlling the pandemic. We are fortunate to have lots of hospitals per capita as well.
The judge's point was that all jobs are essential for the financial well being of the county. Unless you are a business owner and have to worry about payroll, I don't think you understand the strain it puts on a company and the employees that work for you.
This is great and all, but does nothing different. How can everyone go to work when so much is cut out? If you just simply get up, go to work, then go home, all types of businesses suffer. Therefore no point in many of them going to work.
So yeah, basically the same thing just in reverse order. It slowly cuts out the non-essential businesses rather than just enforcing the cut out of the non-essential businesses. Only one might argue that it does this slower and less effectively because some still don't follow the rules. The point is, people will typically go one step OVER what is enforced. Meaning breaking the rule just a little bit. Here, if nothing is specifically cut out, you'll still have the few morons who think it's a great idea to sit in a movie theater, or go to a crowded restaurant, etc.
I live in Collin County. As far as I know, movie theaters are closed and restaurants are still take out only. Gyms are still closed as well, as I work at one. What I can do and hope to continue to do (honestly, will continue to do as it's easy to hide in my gym as its dark plus even the strictest SiP rules allow for people to visit offices that are closed as it's essential to ensure no vandals have damaged anything and no pipes have broken or other issues have happened. Plus I live right by it so I can walk there) is go to the gym by myself to do some office work, clean and get in a good training session. I am working on also potentially doing virtual session from the gym for clients and members. I am at risk, so I get the issues there. But I am the only one visiting my gym, so I have 0 contact with any humans.
Point is, there'd be a lot of people angry that I'm doing what I'm doing b/c they lump all of us in to one group, even though I don't go shopping or have any human contact except with my family. But just like the situation with rural areas, there are different needs for different regions, states, counties and cities. And it probably should be handled that way.
