Cuomo was way more positive today than past days. Sounds like he has hope that new case rates are decelerating. It's still early but the 24 hour new case rate in the US is lower than yesterday even with the increased testing rates. He also said that 15% of people that tested positive needed hospitalization. Also, 3% of the positives needed ICU. These ICU patients were primarily elderly or people with significant prexisting conditions.
That's about as positive as I've heard. Of course NY dwarfs the rest of the US and you can expect the rest of the US to see daily increases. NY likely seeded the rest of the US and California/Washington did the same before social distancing was in place.
New cases is still a lagging indicator but as close as you can get to a leading indicator.
