Cuomo was way more positive today than past days. Sounds like he has hope that new case rates are decelerating. It's still early but the 24 hour new case rate in the US is lower than yesterday even with the increased testing rates. He also said that 15% of people that tested positive needed hospitalization. Also, 3% of the positives needed ICU. These ICU patients were primarily elderly or people with significant prexisting conditions.

That's about as positive as I've heard. Of course NY dwarfs the rest of the US and you can expect the rest of the US to see daily increases. NY likely seeded the rest of the US and California/Washington did the same before social distancing was in place.

New cases is still a lagging indicator but as close as you can get to a leading indicator.

Let's hope this continues.

Yeah, those numbers & percentages don't equate to the # of ventilators that he is saying they need now. He's definitely trying to hoard them.

Hey small victories. Lets take it for now.

I do think we just need to take the distancing and shelter in places seriously for a few more weeks and we'll start seeing a real shift in the numbers. That said, with this virus even if the numbers get small, it can come roaring back soon as masses gather together again.

Do we have a numerical breakdown of the whole thing?

That is, # tested, # positive, # hospital, and # ICU?

3% of positives requiring ICU seems like a large drop from previous rates reported.

He also straight up admitted that the 4000+ ventilators coming from the FEMA stockpile are just going into a NY stockpile rather than being deployed. Basically tying up Federal resources to make himself look good.

Would be interesting to see if the 15% are getting medication to keep them out of the ICU and if so what. We have heard rumors of HCQ and this would be help for the rest of the country.

I also wonder if the wide spread testing his helping with this.

What? I'm so tired of listening to him drone on I have stopped watching. Did he really say that?

Yes and yesterday was him sitting in front of a wall of PPE for show.

Director of Surgery at NYP said last night 20% of hospitalized needed ICUs, and 80% of those needed Vents (which it sounds like they're typically on for a week to 10 days?). That 20% completely lines up with the 15% and 3% numbers Cuomo is stating.

NY has reported 4400 new cases so far today. If Cuomo's numbers are correct, that means 660 will be hospitalized, 132 will end up in ICU, and 106 will need vents.

NYC and Washington state have more deaths than the other 48 states COMBINED. They are in really bad shape and need support from all of us.

And he will be sure to unplug and ship them back ASAP when my local hospital needs it?

Did he say why they aren't being deployed? Not needed or what?
