Ethyl alcohol works just as well. I don't know what the stocks in liquor stores are like these days, but I bought a big bottle of everclear a few weeks ago and have even made hand sanitizer from it.

I tried it with Everclear and it was a total fail. In fact I haven't had much luck with isopropyl alcohol either. I follow the recipes on YouTube and they fail. Does it matter the type of aloe Vera gel you use?

Why don't you just pour a little everclear into your hands and wash them with it? The idea is to kill any bacteria and germs on your hands. You don't need a "lotion" to do that.

2 parts 91% isopropyl alcohol 1 part aloe Vera jell(with no active ingredients like lidocaine)

I was fortunate to find some banana boat aloe Vera jell at a $1:00 store. Was $4.

If the everclear or similar drinking alcohol is 95 proof or more it can be used in the same ratio.

For the final comparison. We tested the little hand sanitizer we made vs what was purchased. It was all the same. Same feel wet, same dry out period. Same feel dry.

Do you mean 95% or 190 proof?

You don't, but it's less messy than pouring alcohol on your hands.

In what way was the isopropyl failing? The only problem I had was that some of the fillers in the aloe would stick together like a gummy ball. On my second batch, instead of putting the aloe in first and then adding the alcohol, I poured the alcohol first and then added the aloe. This way the fillers broke apart and clung to the edge of the glass jar instead of balling up together.

I think I used the wrong ratios.

I got my hand sanitizer in the mail. Did everyone get theirs?

Yes, I got mine. Also ordered some for my parents in Oregon and they got theirs.

I am probably going to order more if hand sanitizer doesn't become available in stores soon. Just to have a couple extras on hand.

Thanks again for posting the link.

Always good to be able to get access to a necessary product that is made in the state of Texas by Texans.

I found a big bottle of rubbing alcohol under this sink this weekend, but it is only 50%.

90+% alcohol is actually less effective at killing germs than 70%. The water content is important in the sanitizing process. Too high of an alcohol concentration, like straight everclear, is not a good disinfectant. ~70% is the target range to shoot for.

In Houston a new Distiller is making sanitizer. They are asking for a donation (I don't think they can sell it). Got a 750 ml bottle today.
Google William Price Distilling Company.

Pretty sure others are also doing this around the State.

Ordered two bottles for pick up. Thanks for the link!
