Happy Easter y'all!

I was struggling to fill out my unemployment forms, because it needed me to call the agency for a new PIN or something. I received an email this morning telling me that they have made changes and to try again.

I am now logged on and halfway through the form. So if you have had issues trying to get into the unemployment form, check again.

okay, so question...

Does anyone know what the difference in $$ for reduced hours vs general layoffs?

Someone who knows lots about this and has stars PM'ing me would be very much appreciated.

Reduced hours is if you are still working but your hours have been reduced. For example, you used to work 40 hours per week and now you are only working 24 hours per week.

I have to go back through it for the rib, but it appears as she will not get anything for reduced hours..

She makes right at 100k which is about $1,785 per week. She was cut to 40%. It works out to just under $5k per month less income before taxes. The crappy part, the $700 she makes working 4 days a week for 4 hours a day means, in Texas, she gets nothing. So no, state benefit and no weekly $600 federal benefit.

I typically wouldn't share things like this, but we are in unique times and it ties into another scenario which makes my head itch.

I was discussing the process with my best friend because the poor guy has (2x) 20 year olds who are very comfortable staying in the nest. Both of his kids have had their hours reduced in a similar fashion. Both either have received, or will receive the $1,200 (something we don't qualify for) and both will receive state and federal unemployment......now the capper....both will be receiving more per week than they made before furlough. They also will make more than my wife who has been employed and out on her own/married for almost 30 years.

I admit I am not really surprised, but I hope for those of you who need the assistance, you have my buddies kids experience and not my wifes.

So my concern is that what the "reduced" hours cuts me to will make it to where I make less than what I would with full unemployment.

The reduction I am facing isn't enough to pay rent. I'm going to be fine, I just don't want to be screwed over.

First, I am sorry you are having to go through this.

I must also be clear that this is not my profession or expertise, but because of the situation I have read/researched more than I thought I would over the last 2 weeks. That said, I can only provide my experiences and would definitely run it by someone who is in the field.

Something that is positive, if you qualify for any uneployment the stimulus bill should also provide an additional $600 per week of federal aid for up to 4 months.

It is supposed to be automatic and added to all state unemployment checks. ~$2,400 per month isn't going to move you to the penthouse, but on top of your partial hours and your state unemployment, it should help you cover bills.

We have some smart folks on this site who can fill in the gaps I don't know, but I do hope this all works out for you.

This tells you exactly how your earnings affect your benefit payment. Page 11.

If a person is laid off and files for unemployment and gets it granted; once things lift, if the employer offers the person their job back (same pay and position) and they decline the position, are they able to still continue to receive unemployment? I would hope not, but just wonder if that is the case. Would the employer just provide something to TWC showing the person declined?

you have to request payment on a weekly basis. if you start getting paid and you don't report it, you are committing fraud.

If you are not showing that you are attempting to find work of a suitable nature, then you won't get paid either.

Yes, but if they refuse to be rehired, they are not getting paid. Layoff versus reduced hours that start back up. They could technically show they are putting in application other places, but still refuse to return to the employer that laid them off. Just seems like TWC could have an employer show proof of offering to rehire and being declined as a reason to stop unemployment. They should if they don't.

The work search requirement is waived at this time. They don't want people out on the street.
