If there is no immunity the strain of the virus that will not kill the host (less potent) will eventually win out and be the only strain in circulation. Just like the flu. Correct?

We will probably have immunity for a while. Let's say a minimum of 1-2 years. Maybe 10-20 years.
But most viruses mutate. And weirdly enough, they mostly get less lethal. My guess is that the same will happen with this one. And even if we don't have complete immunity we will not get as sick.

The body fights HIV quite well. Until it shuffles up and comes back, indefinitely, hiding in reservoirs in the body all the while.
Antiretroviral drugs work by preventing the virus from reshuffling. The immune system still does the heavy lifting.
