Hey guys,
I posted my sickness log on a previous thread. I am 4 weeks symptom free. For the record, I was not tested for Covid, as I was an early case and they were not testing people in my demographic. Link below:

https://texags.com/forums/84/topics/3103752/replies/56286984

I just wanted to go through my recovery and see what other people are experiencing. For background I am a 34 year old triathlete that is more active than most people.

Everything I do my heart rate is extremely elevated. Breathing feels normal, but I guess I am still not getting enough 0xygen, as my heart rate skyrockets with any effort. Feels exactly like being at altitude.

Last week I tried to trim some trees at the farm and my heart rate would red line to 190. I had to take breaks every 5 minutes. Within 45 minutes of working/breaks, I had to call it quits as I felt light headed and thought I might pass out.

Yesterday I went for a bike ride. What would normally be an easy 30-50% effort, has me at 85%+ heart rate and effort levels. Basically what would have normally been a walk around the park, I was at threshold. For those not familiar with threshold and heart rate in cycling, my average speed for this route is normally 17-19mph depending on wind. Yesterday it was 14mph. The effort I was putting forth, would have put me in the 19-20mph for the ride.

Heart rate is getting better though. I walk a loop around my neighborhood daily with my dogs. Post sickness my heart rate was 120-130 from just walking a mile. Today it was 110. Small progress, but better.

Pulse OX is still in the 95-96% range. Resting heart rate is in the 70-75 range. It was 110 when I was sick. When in shape, I am in the mid 40s-50 resting heart rate for reference.

Any one having similar experiences? I haven't tried running yet. I figured I would stick with the biking, walking and light weights. Hopefully build back up to running soon.

Thanks for the report. Very interesting. Any residual cough? Feet swelling?

That is terrible! Sorry to hear you're still experiencing this. Hopefully you are back at 100% soon.

Signed up for ARCpoint, but from what I hear their accuracy is in question. When there is an accurate one on BCS I will do it.

No cough or feet swelling. When I am sitting still I feel perfectly normal

So just the flu?

But seriously I wish a full and speedy recovery with lifelong durable immunity.

First of all I am glad you are recovering. What was your training load like at the time when you came down with it? Also what is your blood type?

Reason I ask for the non-triathletes (I used to do them) is during your training cycle you peak at a level of stress which often comes from increasing mileage. During this peak your immune system is at its weakest. So if the OP was training for IMTX 70.3 or IMTX he may have been at peak stress. I know I got sick a few times when I was one of those "poster boys of perfect health" stages.

One thing a lot of triathletes do is track everything and seeing as you are measuring heart rate and oxygen levels it sounds like you are one of these people. Have you been measuring HRV or anything like that? Most people do not track this data so it may be helpful to others.

Training load was the lowest it had been in a year or two. I wasn't going to start ramping up until the end of March.

I understand your reasoning with triathletes ignoring their bodies signs and over training to the point of getting sick. I have a knowledgeable coach that watches my vitals and we take breaks when needed. I have been training 3+ years ramping up and down and have managed to avoid injury of illness.

Most people go balls out and do not factor in recovery. I am not that person.

Blood type is A-

Rather than heart rate variablity, we mostly use the parameters in WK04 and Training peaks. These include CTL (Fitness), Intensity factor, Training stress score, Fatigue (ATL) amoung others. These parameters give you a little more information than the HRV.

Okay, just asking. I was one of those that did too much until I got a coach, holding me back saved my health big time.

Has more studies/research been done on type A's being more susceptible? I know at one time I saw it mentioned.

I had seen that to, but I doubt we will know for sure until peer reviewed articles come forward.

you should get a check up from a good heart doctor if your symptoms persist...

Yeah it has been extremely frustrating. I wasn't even allowed to see a doctor when I was sick. Only though nurses and telehealth. Impossible to get vitals through the computer.

When doctors actually return to normal operation here I definitely will.

I'm trying to do a couple weeks worth of easy exercise. If I don't see improvement I'm going to find one.

How do you think your blood circulation is? Reason I ask is that I have heard reports of patients now going into the hospital, who were COVID19+ but did not require hospitalization (so they battled it at home), because they are having blood clots in extremities. The doctors here and elsewhere have noted this issue for patients in the hospital, but seems they can arise as well in patients who didn't require hospitalization.

That's scary stuff.

I think its great you're keeping track of all this. Hopefully, if it is some type of lung injury, it will heal slowly over time (3-6 months).

there is no way to get accurate info but I wonder what percent of the COVID+ and those non-symptomatic will experience these long term issues?

I think I am getting good circulation. I feel perfectly normal, but just like I am at altitude. I spend a lot of time above the treeline in Colorado, so I am familiar with altitude. Lungs feel perfectly normal. It is a weird sensation.

Only reason I keep track is because I have a race in 7 months, and I am running out of time to safely build for it. I am most likely going to have to drop out.

Brother, recommend that you listen to MedCram COVID-19 Update 61, which was just published.

An important element of the discussion is Oxidative Stress. It struck me as possibly related to what you are experiencing.

Wish you the best.

Well considering the residual effects I have been having, I scheduled my insurance's yearly biometric screening. I haven't gotten the results yet, but blood pressure is very alarming.

Read: 140/85. I have never had anything remotely close to this. Trying to get into a BCS doctor ASAP.

Thanks, but Is 34 old? I am young as compared to most of the Ironman competitors.

I know its a joke. It is my AIM screen name from when I was in middle school

Everyone HAD to know it was a joke - A&M didn't open until 1876!

You likely have seen this posted, but one of the Drs on TexAgs mentioned heart and/or renal issues for life with some of his patients that had Corona.

I would get with a heart specialist soon.

I booked an appointment with an Internal Med doctor for Monday. So hopefully we can get to the bottom of this. Luckily it is in person!

Great! Good luck. I would bring up what some of the Drs are seeing with the corona victims so that your Dr will have time to research it. The Ag Dr that brought this up was mentioning that how information on corona isn't being passed around due to newness/chaos.

Visited the doctor this week.

EKG came back normal.

Serology Test came back negative for Corona.

Bloodwork normal.

Doctor said he was surprised I tested negative as my symptoms sounded very much like Covid. Said it was most likely some other viral infection. He said elevated heart rate was due to my body convalescing, the pneumonia, and was not permanent.

I guess that is good news. He cleared me to excercise. I ran 2 miles this week and felt ok. So here we go for the long road back!
