Posted this on another thread but thought it may get more attention as its own thread. Have there been any recent studies re: regular smoking/tobacco use and severity of COVID symptoms? I saw a few foreign studies a while back that seemed to loosely indicate that regular smokers or nicotine users may experience fewer/less severe symptoms or complications from Covid, but seems crazy to me.

I was diagnosed with COVID-19 Saturday afternoon and it's likely that I was exposed 8-10 days ago (based on diagnosis from a friend I was at a gathering with) but no way to know for sure...could be possible he got it from me as I had weird bouts of diarrhea at his crawfish boil but still felt fine and suspected my earlier lunch to be the culprit. I used to be a weekend social drinker and smoker, but during the shutdown must admit that I've started drinking about two stiff adult beverages an evening/night and anywhere from 2-4 cigarettes along with it. I am 39, physically fit and run quite a bit and used to hit the gym almost every evening before the shutdown. But I also smoke a little cannabis and a few cigs pretty much every night now

So far, if I hadn't received a positive result, I am not sure i'd even suspect I had it. I have had a few days with frequent solid bowel movements (4 times today already) and have had a crick in my neck that I suspect was from sleeping but possibly worsened by virus which has pretty much gone away after 2 days, and have had very mild allergy symptoms which are typical to me since I spend so much time outdoors and esp since it has been very dry in Houston lately. Mucous in nose/dry nose at times/dry throat and slight occasional dry cough etc.

I am relieved so far that i have been almost "asymptomatic" (in that these symptoms are symptoms i seem to go through pretty regularly this time of yr being outdoors a lot and would never consider out of the ordinary)...but hoping it's not calm before the storm and that this will somehow just move to my lungs all of a sudden. Not a long-time heavy smoker or anything, but still...

Anyways, sorry for the long post, just wondering if there have been any updated studies re: smoking and COVID symptoms?

There is at least one French study that indicates smoking may be beneficial!

Wonder if we'll start seeing doctors in cigarette commercials like they were back in the 1960s and 1970s.

Thanks guys...feel much better now that my wishful thinking is confirmed. Sounds conclusive, science is settled!

Seriously though. Could make the lungs a less healthy or receptive host.
