Looks like a trial is under way to reduce lung inflammation via the use of low-dose radiation. Has been shown to reduce inflammation from other types of pneumonia. Essentially running people through a CT scanner with a slightly higher dose of radiation, not even close to the type of radiation you would use for cancer.

It apparently has been used in the past to successfully knock down lung inflammation. Obviously not something commonly used today, but I think it's worth a shot. Higher on the evidence scale than bloodletting.
