Daughter tested positive on 6-20-20. Had all the symptoms including loss of sense of smell and taste. If after 14 days of quarantine and she still has no sense of smell or taste should she continue to quarantine? Sorry if this has been discussed. Thanks for any information.

Why not simply get a negative test first?

Most places recommend presenting no symptoms (fever, etc) for 10 days and a negative test.

Taste / smell can be impacted for some indefinite amount of time (couple days to months per some anecdotes).

Interesting you should mention this, Rudy Gobert, who tested positive back in March kicking off the closings of the major spots, claims that his sense of smell still is not 100% back yet:

Saw a story this weekend where the NBA player (Rudy Gobbard(sp?)) still didn't have smell back 3 months after his diagnosis, and that it could take up to a year to fully return.

I wonder if Gobert is still testing positive today since his symptoms are still present? Would the doctor/CDC recommend he still quarantine since he is still showing symptoms?

I have a feeling that 5 different doctors would give 5 different answers for this situation. The truth is that no one really knows since the virus affects everyone differently. .

Release from isolation if not hospitalized requires that the fever be gone and the symptoms be significantly improved, not gone.

In other words, they are not following the CDC guidelines at all?

I was told by someone from the local hospital district that I would have to remain in isolation until I tested negative two days in a row.

I contacted the Texas Department of State Health Services and was told to follow the CDC guidelines, which I did.

For the CDC guidelines for release from isolation, see http://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/disposition-in-home-patients.html.
