when did you feel comfortable getting back out into society?

my first symptom was Father's day, just some sinus pressure and a scratchy throat. Never had a fever or cough.

i tested on Wednesday the 24th and was given my positive diagnosis on the 26th

i've been basically symptom free since about Thursday

did you guys retest and wait for a negative test? did you just wait the 14 days from onset of symptoms?

Seeing your symptoms. I could have had it 4 times in the past 4 months. What made you go get tested?

overabundance of caution I guess?

the double whammy is I actually tested positive for strep that day which according to the dr explained my symptoms...so maybe i would have never known had i not gotten strep

and i guess for data purposes, I am a very active 36 year old with no underlying conditions

my wife also tested positive...she works at a hospital so she could have very well been the carrier

Wow. Really makes me wonder. Had a slight cough from March thru April and a slight sore throat. Nothing else. Just told myself it was allergies.

This Covid is odd on the symptoms.

when did you feel comfortable getting back out into society? I was released by the Health Department on May 14. I got my hair cut on May 15. It felt really weird to get out and drive my car and interact with society after spending two weeks in the basement of our home.

my first symptom was Father's day, just some sinus pressure and a scratchy throat. Never had a fever or cough. I had a low grade fever, and chills and uncontrollable shakes.

i tested on Wednesday the 24th and was given my positive diagnosis on the 26th

i've been basically symptom free since about Thursday. Good for you. It kicked me to the curb. I think it was six weeks until I got my stamina back.

did you guys retest and wait for a negative test? did you just wait the 14 days from onset of symptoms? I was told by the Health Department that if I retested after my 14 day isolation I'd test positive due to the dead Covid genetic material in my nasal passage. Initially, I tested negative twice, but three days after my second negative, I became symptomatic. I knew I was positive, so I got tested the next day, and three days later, the results came back positive.

Using the "non-testing / symptom based" release guidance from CDC it is 10 days from first symptom and then 3 days since last fever and respiratory symptom.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/disposition-in-home-patients.html

Quote:

1). Symptom-based strategy
Persons with COVID-19 who have symptoms and were directed to care for themselves at home may discontinue isolation under the following conditions:
At least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since recovery defined as resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and improvement in respiratory symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath); and,
At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared.

Were her symptoms similar to yours?

My symptoms and my wife's were different. She had more GI issues, I didn't. I lost sense of smell, she didn't. But luckily we're were almost asymptomatic really.

The mind is a powerful thing and if I never tested positive, i don't think I would have suspected I ever had it. But after testing positive, some things made sense.

The local hospital people told me that I would not be released from isolation until I tested negative two days in a row.

I contacted the Texas Department of State Health Services and asked if I had to go by the local hospital rules or could I go by the TDSHS and CDC rules. They said to go by the CDC rules. So I never even contacted the local hospital district. As far as I know, they may still consider me to be positive.

A couple of day after I left isolation based on the CDC rules, someone from the regional office called me. I told him that I had recovered based on the CDC no-test rules and he sent me a letter that day officially releasing me from isolation.

Like everything else with this virus, you'll get a few different opinions depending on who you ask.

We're in a similar boat as you, found out we had been exposed on Father's Day, tested positive on Monday. We believe that by the time we had been tested, we'd probably had it for about a week (I had a headache one day, wife had a fever at one point). It wasn't until the second week (after we tested positive) that a lot of the other symptoms like fatigue (the worst part), cough, loss of smell, etc. hit.

Anyway, our testing site recommended 14 days of quarantine from the positive test. But a family doctor told us 10 days after last symptoms, and we even had another doctor say 5 days after the last time you ran fever. The one thing I would not recommend based on what a couple of doctors told us, is to try and get a negative test, because one of them has seen people not be contagious but test positive for up to a month after originally having the virus.

We plan on going back to normal-ish on Saturday, which for us means gathering with some family (most of which have already had the virus), wearing masks to run errands, and continuing to work from home for a while longer.

Thanks for this info! What were the symptoms like for the other family members who had the virus?

More of the same. Fatigue, coughing, some headache/fever, and very early on some chills/achiness. Luckily we all had fairly mild cases and most of us would probably not have known without a positive test, and somehow didn't pass it onto elderly family members that were exposed as well.

Pretty sure it all stems from a bridal shower for my sister in law that occurred nearly three weeks ago. It was set up for people to come at different times, social distance, no drinks and just prepackaged food for snacks, basically every precaution you could take (Short of cancelling, which is probably what they should have done). Several people that helped set up/host have tested positive, and several others have claimed flu/sinus infections, but we figure they probably have/had it too..

Again, we seem to be very lucky in that none of the elderly and vulnerable that were in attendance or that we had direct contact with immediately afterwards seem to have gotten sick. I know our story isn't unique (spread at an event hosted once things loosened up a little), but it seems to have ended better than a lot of others did at least.

For my wife, today is 10 days from symptom onset and 6 days fever free.
She has been isolating in our bedroom while I've slept in the guest bed.

I've been sleeping terribly and wanting to be back in my bed so I'm trying to decide if I'm better off sleeping in the same room as her and risking exposure or continuing to isolate and lose sleep.

Does she have any respiratory issues?

If not, based on the CDC guidance I posted above, she would be clear to go out in public (maybe tomorrow depending on how you define when the 10 days end).

thanks Charpie!

and thanks everyone for your input. I think we'll venture out this weekend to watch fireworks but staying inside the car.
we'll probably continue to isolate at least through next week just to be extra safe...we did HEB home delivery last weekend and that was great, probably will do the same this weekend and then back to curbside next weekend.

we wont be sending the kids back to daycare til the 13th.

to be fully honest, the worst part of this has been dealing with terrible anxiety off and on

Did your sense of smell come back? I heard that in some people it can be permanent. This is what scares me the most about COVID-19.
