The bigger question on a mask is not whether you were wearing one, but how many places you were at that you can remember many other people not wearing them.

The mask won't protect you from catching it if you're near someone who is not.

Honest question, why not? Do they only work in one direction? Really don't understand this reasoning.
and I don't understand how people are still asking this question - it's almost like there's a whole group trying to be purposefully obtuse.

Just trying to understand the physics involved.

Do masks only work in one direction? If so would it be safer to put in on inside out?

Do mask only work on water droplets and not aerosol?

If so the water droplets should get stopped on the outside of the mask wearer's mask right?

If they don't work on aerosol and that's a common cause of spread then maybe they don't really work.

Honestly just trying to understand this.

On 6/30 we left Dallas and stopped overnight in Baton Rouge before heading the rest of the way on 7/1 to Gulf Shores. Stopped at a Subway in Shreveport for lunch (takeout) on the first day. Visited a Wal Mart for groceries after arriving in Gulf Shores. Other than that, stayed very isolated with close contact with family only. We stayed in a house where we pretty much had our own stretch of beachfront to ourselves. The neighbors all kept their distance the entire time. We were out of town a ways... so I'm sure the crowd situation could have been much worse if we were closer in.
When you say close contact with family only was there extended family there as well or just your wife and children?

I think it is safe to say that you need to track down an N95

If you cannot get a Kn95 and put a carbon filter on the inside. You might not be able to breath very well - but I lined a kn95 with a carbon filter and could not blow out a candle.

In fact the flame didn't even move. There are ways around lesser masks - ie carbon filter just Gotta be inventive.

And stay the F away from people. A vaccine is 4-5 months away.

I really am trying to understand although I do have no intention of putting a mask on for a variety of other reasons.

I believe the post about gold stars you are referencing was someone saying that businesses are choosing on their own to require mask because it's a good business decision for them. The poster was acting like the threat of fines had nothing to do with their decision. I have no problem with businesses requiring masks. I do have a problem with the government requiring businesses to require masks.

Sorry for the thread derail. I'll be on my way.

Explain how the same theory applies. Does the breath send enough viral load a far enough distance to even be a concern if you aren't in close proximity for an extended time period?

The docs here can answer that however i believe the theory is that you have to be within 6 feet for 15+ min unmasked to pick up enough viral load to be infected. I asked earlier on this thread if that was the gold standard as the OP does not seem to have breached this theory/rule and yet still acquired the virus.

Yeah that's what I had thought as well and is what I've been basing my actions on. Like if you are close talking or coughing or sneezing around other people without a mask then that makes you an *******. But you aren't an ******* for just walking through Home depot without one and maintaining your distance

Can't you also get it through your eyes? So you can still get infected that way even with a mask.

What rules did I break replying to him telling me to shut my hoar mouth? Obviously I don't want him to die, I just can't help that his old man status puts him at an elevated risk.

I had a gif removed where I was agreeing with pretty much everyone on the thread (about stupid conspiracy theories) and made a joke that HYDRA started the virus. Funny pic of Biden whispering Hail HYDRA to some woman. Guess it went too far? First time for me to have a post deleted.

How are you feeling ak? I am on day 11 and finally feeling like I'm on the upswing. My sense of taste and smell returned today (thank God!) but it's still not back to 100%.

We are 99% sure my wife has it as she's going through all of the same symptoms I had.

Hope you're doing well and hanging in there!

Doing better today. Fever seems to have subsided, although I thought that yesterday at one point and then it came roaring back. Still pretty tired. My wife is enforcing a pretty strict "get up and walk around" every hour or so. Taste/smell still gone. Appetite also non-existent, and really any amount of food is difficult to eat / makes me nauseous.

Pulse oximeter arrived this morning. Seems to be pretty steady in the 94-96 range, although there was one dip to 92 after waking up at one point.

So damn crazy how this virus effects people differently. From my mild case so far, to a more intense reaction like yours, to even worse...

Prayers for you ak. If you or anyone else need anything or just an ear to talk to shoot me a pm. Happy to lend a sympathetic voice.

I've read a lot about not only the virus spreading effectively through fecal matter but also how flushing toilets can aerosolize the virus making it airborne in a bathroom. The 6 feet/mask thing is more about respiratory droplets but airborne is a different matter.

In your case, I wonder if you followed someone who had covid in the bathroom.

My wife likely got it, which was really surprising since she had been super careful and rarely goes out. But she did go to the dentist shortly before her symptoms showed up so that seems to be the best candidate for when she got infected. I think that's another potential scenario for aerosolization because there was no times where she was close to someone unmasked for 15 minutes, as the dentist was obviously masked.

Yes.

I've been taking a multi vitamin high in zinc and D3 Since this started. I started on CoQ10 about 1 month before I got infected. As soon as I suspected COVID, I ordered the Quercetin and a 500mg vitamin C. Been taking all of for about a week now.

Wife has been on a pre/post natal multi vitamin for over a year. She started on the others this past week when I popped hot and now that she is no longer nursing.

Think this is probably the culprit. Mask wearing by others was noticeably very low.

Did you do many bathroom stops at gas stations/rest stops on the road? Friend of mine has been in Florida since 6/28. He's sick now and is pretty sure it's Covid. Went and got a test done at one of those Doc in a Box places. He thinks he caught it at one of the places they stopped on the road to use the bathroom. They drove straight through instead of stopping halfway and they did no restaurant stops. They're staying in a house with private pool. Brought all their groceries with them from home. Socially distancing at the beach. So, bathroom stops seem to be the culprit to him.
I'm betting the Walmart. My daughter just did the same trip but from Houston. She said the Walmart near Gulf Shores was scary. Super long checkout lines and no one wearing masks. She is back and fine, never got sick, but it was an eye opener on how few in that part of the US are wearing masks indoors.

I have also been taking Dr Coates' full regimen since he first posted them, and have to believe they have made a difference in the symptoms I've had. I have no way to substantiate this, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Quercetin, NAC and CoQ10 helped prevent any significant respiratory issues (I never had a cough or shortness of breath).

I'd also like to believe these played a role in keeping my case on the milder side.

Before I got infected, I could tell a noticeable difference in my breathing during workouts and long runs.

I got my all clear to return to the world tomorrow. I can't say for sure if the supplements helped, as I'm a sample of 1. And I don't have a control case to compare it to. However, they didn't hurt me, and overall I do feel better in general. Could be placebo effect, but I'll continue taking them for awhile.

Really never got knocked down from it. At its worst point was just like real bad cedar fever. At most 48-72 hours of strong symptoms.

Symptoms started on the evening of the 4th. Felt slightly feverish with a headache. Temp was 99.2. The next day, temp seemed to fluctuate between 99 and 102 (knocked down to the low end with meds), and started to notice taste/smell being gone. Extreme fatigue every evening that you can almost set a clock to (basically an urge to lie down around 7pm and stay in bed until the next morning). Early evening is also when bad chills usually set in... as in, under multiple blankets just barely able to get warm. After a few days noticed a *****ly sensation on my scalp and back (almost like a bad sunburn). Appetite is almost non-existent, but I noticed yesterday that slightly salty foods taste VERY salty, almost to the point of making me gag. No breathing issues yet, but a tightness/tingly sensation has set in which makes me cough occasionally.

Did a nasal swab test today at CVS... unfortunately they are saying results in 5-7 days due to high demand. Isolating and staying hydrated in the meantime...

100% sounds like me from back at the end of April through mid May. I tested positive.

Also i would start to feel better then slip back to bad again. That happened several times throughout the 2 weeks. The salt thing really sucked for me too. I also was EXTREMELY dehydrated all the time. It was so hard to rehydrate despite drinking water all day.

So no test result back yet?

I started feeling off today with the same weird *****ly skin feeling on my back and head, mild fever right now around 100.0, Chills, a little loss of appetite but not too noticeable, Exhausted more and more as the day went on, And a little something there on a deep breath that gives me a slight cough feeling. Weird thing is I had this exact same feeling mid January that then turned into a 2 week severe cough that I either pulled a rib cage muscle or cracked my rib cage. Been meaning to get antibody test, just never got around to it.

So how do i get tested? Call first or Just show up? Express ER type place VS CVS VS a hospital?
