TLDR; tracking people who recovered early, antibodies seem to fade over a few months (much like other corona viruses / common cold), hence immunity is looking unlikely.

They then say this is bad news for vaccine hopes, but I'm not a doctor so I can't give a good TLDR for that part.

This is research from UCSF which is a pretty major research hospital down the street from me. I know a few folks who work there, they're legit.

It's early and I'd like to see more studies, but concerning if this ends up being the case. Makes me wonder which trends/changes we're experiencing with COVID are going to become permanent.

T cell response. That's what will help the most imo.

Can you share how the body responds to other viruses, isn't it normal for antibodies to be at their highest count when actively fighting a virus and then reduce over time? However, your immune system is now "programmed" to respond faster if exposed again? So even without a high or even detectable antibody count on next exposure, your body can quickly respond to prevent symptoms or at least reduce severity of symptoms? And this is why the elderly are more at risk, the immune system is weakened and can't produce antibodies as actively?

Could we all just get a shot every few months or whenever there is a flair up? Wonder how long the vaccine will take from injection to full effectiveness in days?

Really just need Covid to mutate to something less harmful

the reason this bug is as deadly as it is is because humans haven't seen it before

it's the novel aspect that is reaping folks

once the novelty wears off, I wouldn't expect auto immune disasters in response to infection

Until I see reinfections actually occurring in places that are just about over covid, Sweden, France,Italy, Spain, I am going to assume the human body can fight it off just like almost every other virus your body encounters after a first infection.

IF the Moderna Mrna vaccine is as promised, it produced antibodies 3x or 4x what those showed post COVID. So if the post COVID patients were "protected" for anywhere near 2 months to 4 months, it seems reasonable to assume the Moderna vaccine would protect you for about a year. We get yearly vaccines already...no reason we can't add another one.

We will not know how the human body really defends itself from this covid virus for another 3-12 months I bet. Just hasn't been enough time.

Most countries are still instituting restrictions and social distancing campaigns. Not until we see it not spread with none of these in place can we assume immunity is present.

But even if it fades, a vaccine will prove useful for the reason stated above. It will Introduce it to the body so we may not over react the next time we are exposed.

Is it possible to measure T cell response?
