Question about masks

I'll start by saying I'm not a big mask guy. Mask goes on a few feet from entering a store or restaurant and comes off the second I walk back out the door. Other than that I don't really wear one.

So help me understand the logic of the people you see walking in the neighborhood all by themselves wearing a mask or driving alone while wearing a mask. I really am curious. Do they think the virus is lurking in the air with no other people around waiting to pounce on them?

I think part of it is laziness and another is not wanting the mask to get lost or dirty. Maybe there's other reasons, dunno.

Well the CDC recommends to wear them in public, so maybe they are just following that. There has also been plenty of advice which says to limit the touching of your face and mask as much as possible. The CDC also says to put it on and then don't touch it again until you are ready to take it off or can wash your hands. I think many people take it too far, especially those I see wearing it in their own car, but that is what the CDC advises.

I wonder how many people actually succeed in not touching their mask until they can wash their hands. I am guessing very, VERY few.

There are certainly lots of people that continue to believe the mask is to protect them, and don't realize that it's actually to protect others. And those people also probably believe that their mask will filter viral particles that are randomly floating around in the air dive bombing towards their noses.

However I think that many people just want to be considerate to others that they may pass closely by, or they would rather leave it on their face than pull it down to their necks/chins. I will take it off if I'm in a personal space, like my vehicle (unless driving with others), but I'll leave it on if I'm at a shared space like a computer that multiple people use throughout the day.

A lot of people continue to just not understand how masks are supposed to work, and their benefits, and as such continue to use them incorrectly, or refuse to use them altogether. But just because they're dumb doesn't shouldn't be an argument against masks.

People truly believe this is a predator being, it will hide in trees and pounce, it will sneak into your car ac and attack you when you least expect it, it will pick the locks on your house and invade!!!!!!!

Bottom line people are truly idiots.

There is no logic to it. I still laugh every time I see someone driving down the road by themselves wearing a mask or walking on the beach wearing one.

I have to wear a mask, and would anyway, as soon as I step out of my apartment into the hallway. So when I am walking my dog, we go out the door, down the hall, on the elevator, and down a short hall to get out of the building. I walk her and then we repeat the process. I am not going to take my mask off because I know I must soon but it back on that that elminates an entire set of touching the area around my face. With leash in one hand, and fob and doggie bag in the other, it also is not that easy to take it off.

After a while you get used to it. I also wash masks after every time they are used.

Doc Rev says you get a little protection for yourself..like thirty percent. And I am very high risk.

I'm 100% pro mask but I take mine off the minute I'm able to. That being said, if people want to wear it everywhere, good for them. It's not hurting anyone, so I don't know why it upsets people so much.

If you're making multiple stops there's a valid argument for putting on and taking off the mask multiple times is worse than just keeping it on.

I don't get the people I see driving in their car alone wearing mask... makes no sense.

I'll wear it inside where I'm supposed to because It is mandated, other than that I don't wear it. Will not wear one outside.

The only reason I can think people wear a mask in a car alone is if they work for a food or grocery delivery and is required to do so?

You need a better reason...there's a whole lot of things that can be mandated.

I think some people forget. Others are a bit OCD or germaphobic and are concerned they may be carrying the virus on them from a public place. I do think it's b/c people don't realize that the masks are for others and not themselves.
I don't put mine on until I get to the doorway and immediately take it off the moment I leave. I cannot wait until we no longer need them and can throw them away. Jmo. Obviously most agree.

I wear a bandana. Same bandana every time I go in a store. I leave It in my hot truck to kill germs. Wash once a week.

Funniest thing to me is that most people are wearing these cloth masks that don't have a barrier which do absolutely nothing for the wearer or anyone around them. I'm guessing most have no idea and just wearing it because it's colorful or it's easier to breathe or simply don't understand they are defeating the purpose of wearing a mask. Of course, some fully know but don't care as long as no one hassles them.

The level of ignorance around when it's effective and what kind of mask works for what purpose has been amazing to watch. I'm guessing most people just get their information from their twitter feed headline and never bother to actually read anything

I was at a restaurant sitting outside and waiter came up with an N95 mask, the ones with the exhale port. I told her that she had a great mask for protecting herself but not for protecting the restaurant patrons. She's said she forgot her mask that day and the manager gave the one she was wearing. I didn't care since we were sitting outside but wow.

OP is so triggered that he gets extra mad when someone outdoors has a mask on. Such a Karen, standing at your front window complaining to the dog that the neighbor mowed too early, and why do they park on the street, and pull up your damn pants.

Why does OP care?

I don't ask questions about folks who wear a tie when they don't have to or folks who wear long sleeves in August or folks who wear white after Labor Day.

Reminds me of my niece who used to aggressively tell house guests to task of their shoes and relax as soon as they got in the door..... When she was four.

Don't allow this to become an issue.

What does it matter? This post shows there is still a long way to go to accepting masks in this country which is troubling.

Most of the reasons have already been posted -- making multiple stops so no need to continuously take it on and off, and more people are getting used to it that they forget they have it on. Sometimes I'm driving in my car after getting out of work and forget that I've had it on until I realize half way home. So what?

I don't remove my mask until i use hand sanitizer in my vehicle. If I'm running a couple of errands I'll keep it on in the car.

I put it on when I get near people (10 feet) walking into say HEB and on it stays until i can wash my hands or use hand sanitizer.

I often wonder if an anti mask Karen type is taking my picture driving between HEB and Home Depot with my mask on and chuckle.

Parking on the street just means you're a hoarder with too much crap in your garage, or knowingly bought a vehicle that doesn't fit in said garage. Either way....

we don't need to accept masks long term
Anyone who would argue use into perpetuity is looney.

I put a mask on only as a courtesy to restaurant and retail employees. I'm not going to make life more difficult for people that already have crappy jobs. However, that courtesy ends as soon as I step outside.

The whole no face touching and extra hand washing thing does not enter my calculus. I've accepted the fact that everyone, myself included, is going to catch this mild illness. I will continue to make as few changes to my life as possible until the collective irrational fear in this country has subsided.

Or you have 6 kids, or you have toddlers and it's not safe to back 100 feet down the driveway, or you made your garage into a man cave.

Isn't there an argument to be made that we never get ourselves to a point that we ever "accept" masks? Sure, a short term solution to help potentially slow the spread of the virus, but the goal is to get to a point we can throw these God awful F'ers away or burn them symbolically in the streets while celebrating the fact we never have to wear them again. I feel that too many seem to want the mask thing to stay with us forever. Wouldn't something have had to go very very wrong for that to be the case?

We are working on this. Problem is it sucks in this heat! We will start using it more come late September and all winter/spring.

Yep. Although I'm not convinced everyone will have it as some point. I think the r rating can get to a point where it spreads to minimally that plenty will end up avoiding it. Maybe only 60/70/80% get it. And the absolute most vulnerable stand a better chance of NOT getting the faster the younger crowd spreads it. That's been my general thought. But for the most part, those not isolating themselves will almost all end up getting it at some point. Hopefully only those that need to avoid it do. And the rest of us let society get back to normal ASAP. In Texas I think we are over that hump. With or without masks from this point on. But many don't agree. That's okay

But in general. Other than wearing masks indoors when required, I haven't changed anything else as of now

Nope. Why should people make decisions based on the desires of a small percentage of the population?
