one of the graphs I look at has the state of NY averaging approximately 600 new cases per day and 7 deaths per day? Is that possible?

This same site has TX at approximately 6500 new cases per day and around 220 deaths per day.

Yes. They have possibly 69% immunity by now

You have math to back that up or is 69 just a funny number to you?

They had their surge in March-April and we had ours in July-August.

Any other brain busters?

I didn't pass it off as fact. I said possibly. It seems very likely that they have a good percentage immune. Much more than people think.

That number comes from a tweet by a Princeton PHD in quantitative biology commenting on a study published as a preprint by a Swedish group of doctors that has positive news regarding T cells and immunity.PLUS the earlier finding in NY that 23% of its population has been infected by COVID 19...3 X 23 = 69...

Those numbers are pretty high considering probably 3000 people still willingly reside in NYC.

Correct. NY basically murdered everyone that could have died from CV in April/May so no surprise that the numbers are what they are.

I would love to hear anyone come up with any better explanation on why NYC deaths are down to single digits a day without assuming that immunity is up in the 70's at this point.

There is not any other feasible explanation.

I live in Manhattan and no gyms, indoor dining, or indoor bars are open. In addition most of corporate America isn't going back to the office until 2021. Furthermore, wearing a mask in NYC is a non issue as most people comply and you can walk to anywhere in the city to get tested for free. We also have a dictator governor who has quarantined half the country.

Time to move states. Come back to Texas where we honor the constitution.

Is there a plan or expectation to open indoor dining post-Labor Day? Dining al fresco in NYC becomes less charming during the fall.

immunity (~20%) + behavior change (no indoor interactions) = single digit deaths

Immunity (~20%) + back to old behavior (back to work and eating indoors) = increase in deaths

Not being rude. Beerad12thman has a solid history of posting numbers that he's pulled out of his ass and even believes that the virus will be completely wiped out at some point in the fall. I just wanted to see if it was fact-based or his usual pie in the sky mental gymnastics.

If this is true, if things open back up before a vaccine comes out, we will be right back to infection rates similar to March / April. 20% immunity is not enough to stem the tide.

That also doesn't explain the curves we are seeing in Italy or Sweden.

All credible reports from journals like Science, Nature and Cell are pointing to immunities over 50% right now in NYC, maybe closer to 70%.

The idea that behavior changes are making a significant difference right now is supported by a bunch of Dr. Fauci clones with 1980's pixar quality youtube videos.

If you look at NY, NJ, Sweden, and others the virus has actually burned out.

Now there is good evidence that T cell immunity may last many months if not longer. Sweden is tracking any and all people for reinfection and so far they have none.

Oh yeah? Solid history of it? Show me.

And wiped out this fall? Never once have I come close to saying that. And you're gonna need to do better that putting words in my mouth

No gyms or indoor dining? Damn, even Austin hasn't done that. Well, that will crush the numbers for sure...and spirits. Whatever fun folks derived from living in NYC has most certainly dissapeared.

Yeah, mostly because said people are also disappearing from NYC.
