I had a friend's kid who went into the doctor for cold-like symptoms today. The primary care/urgent care doctor came in and said your flu and strep tests were negative (covid was pending), and just told the parent they assumed it was coronavirus and to quarantine for 14 days. The friend went and got the kid a rapid test and it was negative with it tested in both nostrils. They're awaiting results of the PCR test, but said it seemed weird the primary care doctor just went ahead and called it COVID without even checking with the parents on the very-obvious cold symptoms.

The symptoms included:

Cough with mucus
Runny/Stuffy Nose
Light Fever
Fatigue
Sneezing

Thoughts?

I don't about any of the other stuff you mentioned, but I do know that alot of school won't accept results from the rapid tests because those tests supposedly give a lot of false negatives. Had this happen with my niece recently and the school district where she attends.

This is what will make the spring so tough. Those are symptoms of allergies too. People are worried about the fall, but the Spring is going to be a bear, I think.

Allergies don't produce mucous or fever so that is one way to rule them out.

What is weird about a kid having the sniffles? Facepalm

I think for them it was the fact the doc wouldn't even consider anything else.

Obviously did consider flu and strep because they ran both tests. Most of the other options are viral and will get better a few days. And right now everyone assumes COVID unless they can show otherwise.

Don't take a Covid test

Few doctors on here already said they are seeing more colds than normal. I know my son had one when he went back to daycare in the summer. Now all the kids that have not been in school or daycare are getting them. Also have a few kids that have gotten strep too which doctors on here said they have seen more cases than normal this year.

Same thing happened to my son/whole family.

Bright side is maybe it'll provide some immunity boost to COVID.

Sorry for any confusion.... What I meant was allergies produce clear drainage (sniffles, clear runny nose) they don't produce the purulent mucous drainage.

I don't usually take my kids to urgent care for sneezing and runny nose.......

100%, this happens to me about every 2 years if I run myself down. I also have colored mucus year round but also have allergies year round since I moved to DFW.

I went in March to get medicine to get rid of the sinus infection and came out negative for strep and the doctor said maybe I was positive for Flu type A since it was very faint. When I left the office every single person was huddled in the back of the office, even the two people up front. At the time COVID test were not readily available so I apparently scared the living heck out of them

When the Rona first started, my wife had to get an endoscopy at a surgical place and everyone was on high alert. Anyway, I walked in with a mask but suffer from crazy allergies about half of the year down here in Houston. Had a random coughing fit and half the waiting room looked like they saw death. I had to announce to everyone that I just had allergies just to calm them down.

Yes they can but then the diagnosis is a sinus infection and no longer just allergies.

Yet our pediatrician did the opposite. Our daughter tested negative for flu and strep, and then she called it "not Covid" without a test. She told my wife that it's been her experience so far that the parents contract and show signs first, then the children.This was before in person school started, about a month or so ago. So we did not quarantine. Just kept her from her friends for 2 days, then it was back to normal as all symptoms were gone for 48 hours. Now that school is in person, this could have changed. SO yes, I do find that strange. I guess it depends on the doctor.
