but given where this disease kills (advanced age), this is a show stopper.
They have injected at least 22,000 people with it and have not found a problem with it. At this point, people are more likely to have long term consequences from the virus than the vaccine.
I can't imagine why people still would rather get sick than get a vaccine.

No one in the study was intentionally exposed to the virus. That's why they needed 22,000 people in each group. That way they knew (statistically) that enough of them would be exposed during their daily lives.
Also, people who signed up for a vaccine trial we're probably more likely to social distance and take other precautions, which just makes the numbers harder.

-80. Keeping at a proper temp is figured out. The issue is ramping up production and deciding who will receive the initial doses, front-line workers or at-risk patients.
Can someone explain why something would need to stored at -80c (temp of dry ice) vs -18c (temp of a standard freezer)
Stability.
Even at regular freezer temps, molecules can move around and fall apart over time. Plus there are some weird phases of ice depending on what you have in the solution.
As an R&D scientist in pharma I find formulation, storage, and stability to be maddening, but they are super critical for actually getting drugs to patients.

I would also guess that the Pfizer vaccine is stable at 4C since the Moderna one is and they are similar. But stability testing takes many months, and no one is going to spend time on that now.

There are very strict rules and real legal ramifications around the release of any clinical trial information, much less data that could move the markets by hundreds of billions of dollars. If you think anyone at Pfizer was risking time in the federal pen to influence the election, I've got some nice beach front property in a good democratic neighborhood in Phoenix to sell you.
It got them past the land mine, but I think the best explanation has already been posted in this thread. Lots of people think 96 is a crazy low number to base statistics off of. At 32 no one would have believed them.

I'd take it and I'm a 31 year old healthy person. (Lift/run 4 days a week, so high cardio vascular conditioning)

Glad to hear it. I hope lots of people take it. I'll wait and see since I already know the virus isn't a threat, but the vaccine is somewhat of an unknown
