I just got scheduled to have a surgical procedure by my OMS in December. This will be at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Possibly a day surgery but also has me down for potentially an overnight stay.

Is this anything that you'd give much concern to? I know Parkland has a pretty high Covid census at the moment, but I imagine those patients are in a completely different wing/unit than surgical?

I imagine just take my supplements before hand and during, and should be good to go?

For all procedures ,surgical or not (I get occasional colonoscopies due to my UC-why when asked if I ever do a "cleanse" I say yes b/c, well, you know if you've had one) are alright to have. My doctors seem to all agree. My MiL has had surgery. My 85 year old father. My 80 year old mother has had numerous procedures as well. You should be fine.

I just had surgery in Houston - scheduled hysterectomy with an overnight stay. No concerns and I had no issues - I'm 10 days past it now. Doctors and nurses were very careful and I could have one visitor.

Thanks for the input. Pretty much what I was thinking. I'm actually more nervous about having the covid test stuck up my nose 72hrs prior than I am the actual surgery. That does not sound like a good time.

My dad had his pacemaker replaced last week. COVID test before, he said the same. COVID test was the gnarliest part. In and out same day so didn't require an overnight stay. Procedure was done in Temple.

My mother in law was just in another central Texas facility due to what was initially thought to be a stroke, then MS and thank goodness is now "only" Transferous Myletis (sp miight be jacked up). She was in the hospital Thursday-Tuesday.

Now she is in a Rehab facility for the next couple of weeks in Round Rock.

She had a COVID test on admission to the hospital. She was allowed 1 visitor a day (visiting hours ended at 7p). In the rehab facility she is allowed 2 visitors per day. We haven't been yet as my kiddos are in school and don't want to start a firestorm in the facility by being asymptomatic and passing it to her somehow and more at risk patients then get it from her.

She is a classroom teacher still and wants to face time rather than subject the kids to tests and have them bunker up.

My parents, wife and myself have all been really comfortable with the protocols we've seen at two hospitals and now the rehab facility in the last two weeks.

I know four people who found out they COVID due to the pre-surgical screening process. The hospitals seem to do a good job sniffing out issues in advance.

My mom had surgery 9 days ago with a two night stay afterwards. There are more stringent protocols in place, and as previously shared, only one visitor was allowed (at any time for her), who was also vetted (my dad). She is 73. She said it felt like they were more careful than when she had a similar surgery two years previous.

I had sigmoid surgery last Wednesday with 3 day stay. All was well, only one visitor at a time. Not much different than other hospital stays except masks.

I've had 4 covid tests and a flu test. The flu test was worse and the only time of the four my nose bled.
