Not really sure where to post this but if anyone has recently planned or been through a funeral during Covid and is willing to share experience or practices that may have worked given the circumstances, I would appreciate a PM. Just trying to think through what might be reasonable in light of the escalating case numbers in north Texas.

To clear the air, it's not a Covid death. My grandfather is ending chemo and headed home.

My grandfather died in September in Oklahoma due to complications of Parkinson's. We held his memorial service in early October in a large church that held 3000 people. There was maybe 70 people there. I ordered a bunch of KN95 masks for people to wear in case they "forgot" theirs. We spread out in the sanctuary. And then had a get together in a park nearby. No one to my knowledge got sick. There is always a risk. Most people were compliant with wearing a mask.

My brother died in August. He lived in Atlanta and our family is spread all over the country. We decided on a celebration of life virtual memorial over zoom. it went way better than any of expected and we were able to have everyone attend.

My great-uncle just passed a few days ago. We are going to do a religious graveside service (his cemetery is at the church - old pre-civil war church in Louisiana) instead of an inside church service and no visitation. Most of the attendees are elderly (or at lest well over 65) and it seemed like a prudent choice.

Grandmother passed in April. By and large was normal with a memorial and graveside service. My gf had an aunt pass last month. Her family had a normal service and 5-6 people got COVID. Luckily, no bad cases from those sick from the funeral.

My mom passed in May. Covid size restrictions so we had the service live streamed.

My mother passed away last Tuesday after a long battle with dementia and Parkinson's in the nursing home. My Dad and her live in a small town on the coast. They have started in-person church services and small fellowship gathers after services again so my mothers memorial with be a full church service.

I will be on a Sunday afternoon in a couple of weeks from now. Parishioners can attend the morning service or attend the afternoon service/memorial with fellowship to follow. Observing the C19 guidelines.

My mothers wishes were to be cremated so it changes the expectations for the funeral home staff.

My wifes grandfather passed away a few weeks ago from Covid in El Paso. The backlog is insane and the restrictions tight so her family is going to wait a year and have a celebration of life ceremony on his birthday.

My dad passed unexpectedly at the end of September (not covid). Milam County. The funeral home director told us the county sheriff told him directly that he wouldn't enforce any restrictions. We asked that everyone wear masks because my mom is extremely cautious, but the funeral home didn't make us adhere to anything. As long as we were comfortable they were very accommodating. We had quite a bit of extended family and friends attend.

Edit to add: OP, I can't DM but feel free to email if you have questions. missyfisk at gmail

3 weeks ago, Father-in-law in Hondo. We had the visitation, service, and burial will full capacity. Masks were mostly on.

A cousin texted us that they tested positive. It was 4 days after funeral. We all panicked for an hour until we learned that they also attended a visitation the day after the funeral. No one from our services has symptoms that we know of. The cousin (who has some health issues) has only felt like she had a cold.
