I'm 60 and have pulmonary issues. Should I try to get in the que and if so, who do I contact? Finally, which vaccine should I seek...Phizer or Moderna?

Unless you're an "essential worker" or a nursing home resident, You shouldn't expect to get it until sometime in March. You won't be able to pick and choose which vaccine. You'll get whatever's available at the time.

Correct, you and your wife would be considered 1B according to ACIP, but Texas appears to be focusing 1B on elderly or those with chronic medical conditions.

Yeah I saw that.

I think we will be the start of Phase 2, probably February or March.

I know our local Health department is giving them and having people sign up based off of parameters set up by the State.

I took a questionnaire from the Texas State Health Department and I fell into the 1B/2 phase. Said there was 4.5 million people ahead of me which really isn't that many. I'm trying to convince our employees is another issue.

I think there is only 2 of us out of 14 (small staff) that are going to take it.

If you're 1B and not elderly, how does the State find you to set you up for vaccination? Are they going through PCPs? It's not clear to me.

It was a misunderstanding by me, I'm not 1b based off what the State is doing.

I was trying to figure it out based off of CDC recommendations, CDC was lumping a bunch of people into 1b.

I think they had 75 older and front line essential workers in that group which is a lot of people.

I'm glad we're deviating but it's disappointing to see obesity on the list.

Yeah, I'm thinking that's going to be just about everyone in this state.

I'm thinking about eating a Popeye's and drinking a couple 2-liter sodas everyday for the next few weeks so I can move myself up the in queue.

Which ever is available for you first. Clinical results very similar. I got Pfizer yesterday. My arm is pretty sore. Otherwise good.

So I read through the 1A and 1B stuff. Several of my family members will be 1B. What I can't seem to find is where it explains how you officially sign up for the vaccination and how you get it.

I say this because I'm assuming you have to register and explain why you qualify, yet the State website doesn't seem to explain that. I get 1A is simple because just about everyone is medical personnel so it is probably through their job. That won't be the case for 1B.

Because people choose to be obese and should not be moved up in line.

People generally do not "choose to be obese".

Yes they do, and they've had eight months to put the fork down, knowing that they're putting themselves at higher risk for the virus among other things.

I don't think you understand all the factors at play in obesity. "Putting down the fork" is not the issue, there are a myriad of factors. Go educate yourself a bit, will be good for you.

If you consume less calories than you burn, you will lose weight. There's your education. Stop making excuses for the ballooning population of obese people.

In 1997 19.4% of adults over 20 were obese, 31.7% in 2018. If it isn't calories in versus calories out, what biological change has occurred in the last 21 years?
GAC06

There's a myriad of factors.

There's eating unhealthy food, there's eating too much healthy food, there's... uh... overeating. Educate yourself.

So if you're in this next group (my mother is), what's the best way to get in line?
2girlsdad
How long do you want to ignore this user?
That was my point. People aren't getting fatter because of genetics, it's eating too much and not being active. This virus brought to light why it's so important to take care of yourself and set the example for your kids. I understand healthy people have died from Covid, but they are the exception. I don't think it's a stretch to say deaths in this country would be a lot less if we were less fat as a country.

The larger concern is that obesity is a direct cause for other factors on this list. Reduce the obesity population and you certainly reduce many of the others.

I thini there's a good chance you get vaccinated next month. Now that we have 2 vaccines shipping (Moderna seems to have produced even more than Pfizer) we're expecting to hit over 5MM vaccinations per week.

fair enough. But that advise would be a great start for most overweight people. I worked my a&& off to lose 30 pounds and have held it off 3 years. Diet and exercise is king for most.
