Foxnews article on the benefits of Vitamin D vs the Corona.

Additional studies also revealed nine out of 10 COVID-19 deaths could have been prevented if people had adequate Vitamin D levels, the FOX 26 report said.

Quote:

So if you're hospitalized for COVID, they're automatically putting you on between 20,000 and 60,000 units of Vitamin D. This is part of their standard of care protocol in that hospital system, he said.

He stressed everyone should think of boosting their immune systems using four different supplements Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Zinc and Quercetin, a natural bioflavonoid that opens up the cells in your body so zinc can get inside, the FOX 26 report said.

Yes tell people to stay inside and live in fear during the warm sunny months, only to have vitamin D levels drop when winter hits. Genius public policy.

If we replaced mask policy with a vitamin D awareness campaign, how many lives would have been saved?

Why not do both...wear a mask and take Vit D LIKE Doc Rev has recommended the entire time.

Easily the biggest oversight during all of this unpleasantness is the lack of a push by CDC, et al for a healthier lifestyle, including supplementing with vitamins. Damn near criminal, actually, but there's not a whole lot of money to be made in preventative maintenance, and it's not a visible sign of doing something that actually makes more of a difference.

The Quercetin and zinc combo was new to me back in the spring, but started taking it when Doc Rev recommended it. My attitude the whole time with this has been to treat my body like I'm boarding up for a hurricane...get it in as good a shape as I can, expect the worst, and maybe it'll be better than I think.

Interesting.

I wish I would have been following Dr. Rev more before I got Covid.
We'd been taking Zinc, Vit C and Vit D since March but I am generally Vit D deficient.
In fact that's generally the primary issue that comes up in my annual physicals.
So I take 2000UI a day, every day and have for the past couple of years.
Since Covid, I've been taking 3000UI a day.

Sounds like I should have been taking 10x that.
Perhaps that's why I was one of the lucky ones that really got sick with this thing.

And zero message about getting a walk or bike ride in. Drop 15 or 20 lbs and you're better prepared for when you get it.

My memory: Either Dr Rev or one of the other doctors on TA suggested a limited daily use as a prophylactic to 5000 IU or less. The mega doses of D3 are given once you are determined to be COVID positive.

That is correct! Use the high dose at time of diagnosis not daily. The 50,000iu is once per week if you don't want to take it daily.

Thanks all.

Since I've had it and I'm on the other side I wasn't going to hit it that hard. I just wish I had when my wife started showing symptoms. Do you think elevated levels (5000ui) will help speed my recovery? I'm a month away from my first symptoms and 2 weeks since I got out of the hospital and I'm still at 60% lung capacity and improving very slowly.

Thanks

What are you talking about? The CDC and every doctor in this country has been encouraging people to eat healthier and be more active for the past 50+ years. And the supplement industry is already a billion dollar business that has no regulation on it. And there's plenty of money to be made in all types of preventative health maintenance.

People are literally told every day "lose weight or you will die," "lose weight or you'll be on insulin soon," "eat healthier or your blood pressure will give you a stroke," yet the tiniest percentage of those told that actually do it. Do you think people are going to suddenly start going for evening walks and start eating healthier because of a pandemic in which they can barely agree is a real danger?

Time and time again, we've seen studies that point to vitamin supplementation as some sort of panacea fall short in reality. There are even studies out there that show an increase in mortality with multivitamin supplementation. Some studies claim it's because unhealthy people think taking vitamins can compensate for their unhealthy lifestyle. Other studies claim to account for that in their analysis and still how increased mortality among multivtiamin users.

And then the person interviewed in that article is a "doctor," but appears to hold his doctorate in pastoral services (PScD). Although he apparently has some certification from a clinical nutrition board - not the American Dietetic Association.

90% of COVID deaths being averted by simple Vitamin D supplementation is a pretty bold statement to make. I'm not saying supplementation isn't helpful, but I have no idea how anyone can make a claim that 90% of COVID deaths could've been averted if they simply had enough vitamin D on board.

This all completely makes sense to me. I've said it in another thread but I'll keep telling people. I've been taking Dr Revs recommended supplements for several months. I don't think it's coincidence that I've had one semi rough day with covid since I was exposed 2 weeks ago. Sunday I had fever and was under the covers most of the day. Once the fever broke Sunday I have felt great since. I've felt 100 percent the last two days with zero symptoms. Being a 300 lb guy with respiratory issues I was terrified when I tested positive sunday but I've strictly followed the vitamin recommendation along with Revs prescribed treatment and have felt fantastic. I even got to have a long distance Christmas day beer with my dad today. Prayers for everyone who is struggling with this terrible virus.

When did they advise to stay inside? In my recollection, the only guidance has been to wear a mask and socially distance.

I have had full panel of blood work twice a year for the last several years and have never been given a Vitamin d level. I guess I will have to ask specifically next time.

I fairness to your provider it is not part of the routine blood work. I started adding to patients at the beginning of the pandemic. I was shocked at the number of patients that are low. I would definitely recommend asking for it.

One of the lessons learned from Covid is we have to be much more aggressive in trading vitamin D deficiency!

When the constant message is "Safer at HOME", human nature is to stay at home, which is typically indoors. Can't really just stand around outside.

California's current measures include playground closures. When you beat people over the head with a message that home alone is safest, that's why people end up with vitamin D deficiency.

Probably because most large meta analyses show no clear benefit to vitamin D supplementation in most people.

Well, I was specifically talking about his annual blood work and why it's probably not routinely ordered for most people on blood work.

People are seriously arguing that the vitamin D deficiency is related to covid restrictions? As in no one had a deficiency before covid?

Right?

I've been vitamin D deficient for years. I'm finally normal after years of taking a lot of it via prescription and taking about 5000 iui daily.

Amazing how quick this board forgets the insane policy ideas that these people come up with.

They arrested a paddle boarder that was alone in the water.
