I haven't been able to find a place with dosages sitting around for my parents in DFW (in their 70's).

The situation in rural America I think is quite different than the urban ones.

There is a scene in that old movie Shaka Zulu or maybe it was Zulu, I can't remember but in the movie these British soldiers are fighting a Zulu army using single shot rifles. They have to go back to the rear to get more ammo.

Instead of having the ammo ready to go for the fight they are opening up the boxes one by one and trying to tabulate down to the round how many shells are being passed out and to who.

This kinds of feels that way...there are doses available but we are bottle necked at the final point of distribution.

The earlier poster mentioned Chik Filla. I know its apples and cedar mulch, but I find it ironic that a bunch of high schoolers can pass out 650,000 meals in 25 minutes here in Cedar Park but we can't seem to figure out how to ramp up capacity properly on a vaccine we knew was likely coming 9 months ago at some point at the end/beginning of 2020...hell even if it was delayed why not have this thing gamed out.

I'm not sure why you brought up politics or thought you needed to debate my factual statement. I was replying to a poster who said his wife would be able to get the vaccine before him because she's a teacher.
That statement would be accurate if Texas followed the CDC plan. That statement is inaccurate since Texas didn't follow the plan.
There's nothing argumentative or inflammatory in those sentences. They're facts that didn't require a debate about which plan is the best plan.

Only if Bell County set different standards than the state of Texas or if she has an underlying condition. Texas didn't follow the CDC plan.

Nonetheless, I hope your access to a vaccine is simpler than it's been in some parts of the state.

I have hope that they will get this worked out soon. I know it's early.

The CDC plan reeks of politicalization. 1b includes old people and frontline essential workers and leaves the not quite as old people with high risks until later and adds "other essential workers". Texas went with 1b including all those with health risks old and less old with risk factors. Medically, those are the people who should be getting it first as it provides maximum reduction of risk of hospitalization and death. The distinction between "front line essential" and "other essential" also seems very political, with teachers and Ag workers in the first group and food service and energy workers in the second group. Why? What makes a teacher more at risk than a waitperson? What makes a rural farmer/rancher more at risk than a roughneck working on a oil rig?

It is all a game of prioritization, and we could argue forever about who should be 1b vs 1c, and everyone will bring different opinions and biases. Should risk of exposure be the deciding factor? Should health risk be deciding factor? CDC went with some combination of both where Texas went more heavily with health risk.

My gripe is that the Texas plan excluded from 1B the teachers, and persons with type 1 diabetes. I don't know why the type 2 (fat) diabetes folks need it more than the folks with an autoimmune disease, and it is in my opinion silly, but best left to be debated elsewhere. Teachers, it should be pointed out, are not able often to change careers quickly (no social security), and also don't have the luxury of determining which customers to serve etc. unlike a wait staff. (Plus, kids are basically germ factories).

Frankly, I think doctors with certain specialties anyway should be able to refer patients into 1B, but that's not the way it is being done.
