1) If you're on an immunosuppressant med, will that affect the efficacy of the vaccine in terms of your body producing antibodies and storing memory of the protein?
2) Will the immunosuppressant med cause you to not attack the live virus as effectively after vaccinated?

Thanks!

Anecdotal but my MIL was recently diagnosed with an auto immune disease and will be on immune suppression infusions soon.

Neurologist Diagnosed last week, his office scheduled her for the Pfizer vaccine for this Saturday down in Austin. She is 73 and before this in excellent shape.

I'm on Remicade. I called my prescribing doctor and she stated that I should be fine and to get the vaccine. I am not sure what you are taking, but the fact is that your doctor probably has you get the flu vaccine. No different here. The biggest concern for my immunosuppressant is that they do not want me to take the flu vaccine for a couple of weeks after my infusion. After that I am free to go. The reason is that I potentially could get sick from the live part of the virus in the vaccine from what I understand.

As for your second part of the question, the IS shouldn't limit the effectiveness of your vaccine as there isn't any live virus. Still, my remicade doesn't limit the effectiveness of the flu vaccine with a live portion so you should be fine. Heck, if anything it works opposite as the medication suppresses your immune system, not the virus.
