This seems to be a huge loophole to be able to sign up early for lots of people.

If you are over 30 BMI, its considered obese. There are many folks who's muscle mass skews this calculation.

Many people don't realize this.

I technically qualify.....how are the people administering the vaccine going to mitigate this ?

There aren't enough of these people to worry about.

You can have three folks injecting and 3 vetting, or you can have 5 injecting and 1 vetting. I say go with 5 injecting and any jerks who lie or abuse the system have to answer to their own conscience and to the ledger the good Lord keeps.

You are absolutley correct. If you register as obese and show up, no one will say a word.

This.

I look at it this way: The more people we can get vaccinated in the long run, the more lives will be saved overall. So if "Gym Bro" Steve with no other medical conditions gets a vaccine before a more voluptuous person, at least we are moving towards herd immunity and that is the ultimate goal.

Also, serious weight lifters still have medical conditions that may require them to take the vaccine early as well. I am not 30 BMI, but around 22-25 depending on what test I take and low body fat b/c I train regularly and am also taking an immunosuppressant. So my doctor wants me to get the vaccine asap. Also, I am a teacher. I know a few pro card carrying physique athletes that are teachers too. There are lots of ways to qualify. In the end, the more that get the vaccine, the better.

My job gave me a letter that I can get the vaccine since I'm an "essential worker". I work in a DOT control room.

I'm not going since I already had Covid (was fine) and I'm young (39) and healthy (BMI is obese but I lift brah).

I just wonder if I went with the letter if they'd laugh and throw me out.

We all need to worry less about the "wrong" people getting the vaccine and more about doing what we can stop the spread in the general population. Should the vulnerable be prioritized? Of course, but the bureaucracy will slow down as more criteria is implemented.

This x1000.

Who gives a rip about who should be in line when. Get the damn thing out to as many people as possible.

I would think that the percentage of people with a BMI over 30 and with less than 20% body fat is in the single digits easily, probably less than 5%. Especially with people over 40 years old. I think the adults that are overfat/BMI over 30 in American is like 60-70%.

Sad that so many people have made poor life decisions to put them in this position. It is very simple but not easy for most people to change.

I fall into this category as well as I am just over 30 on the BMI scale. This seems to be the one time where the BMI metric swings in my favor. I registered for the vaccine as obese, and am curious to see how that actual works out.

I think the only people who know or care how the BMI measure falls apart are the athletes that it doesn't work for. Body fat % should be the gold standard for obesity measurement.

Easy. Put a full length mirror outside the door. If they stop in front of it and flex they don't get the shot.

Put a small dab of paint on their dick. If they can tell you what color, no shot.

Early on during the pandemic one of the doctors on this board said that high BMI people had more trouble even if they were muscular.

I was going to post exactly that. He commented on the fact that society's perception of a healthy weight has shifted despite reality not doing so. If someone has a BMI over 30 odds are they really are more at risk and should consider losing some weight. BMI is unjustly maligned.

"What did you do during the great COVID pandemic, Grandpa?"

"Well....I dabbed dicks in Louisiana."

This is interesting.

I've been lifting weights during most of covid and put on 20lbs while lifting weights. Brought my resting heart rate down and maintained my waist size, I'm still 29 inch waist.

But, being 5 foot 8 170lbs means I'm overweight when I really don't think I am.

Fake humble bragger muscle bro's won't slow down the vaccine distribution anywhere near what a NY-attitude toward 'who is allowed' would.

IMHO, a lot of the muscle types won't get it anyway as they tend to be the paranoid anti-vaxxers (nothing in my body except my specific supplements!) in any case.

Username most definitely checks out.

Just get it. Play the system. This is America.

We probably don't have enough vaccine for people with a BMI over 35. Let's start there and then hit the people over 30. I believe risk increases with BMI.

You aren't at all overweight. BMI is an incomplete measurement and doesn't and never has accounted for muscle mass. For fit people it's really a useless statistic or marker. The mirror is a much better way to tell if you are "overweight" or not. Sure, a roided out guy at 6% BF and your height weighing 280lbs might have some health issues as the human body might not be built to handle that sort of extra mass regardless of the composition of said mass, yet few of these guys die each year and in most cases if muscle mass is the main reason for a higher BMI, the lifestyle lived to achieve that has offset any health issues that could arise with a 25 or higher BMI.

Hell, we will probably find out a correlation between the use of anabolic steroids and lower cases of covid severity. Just speculative obviously, but something like that wouldn't surprise me.

At this point I think after the elderly and at-risk have their chance to get it we should just have a waiting list for the general public. There are differences between the states categories and the CDC and some places are fighting hard so people don't get it when the CDC guidelines say they should. My wife is a pharmacist at a compounding pharmacy so they do not see the high-risk, sick population as much as a place like CVS but she got the vaccination with no questions asked. Our friend who is a dental hygienist had to fight tooth and nail to get it and she works every day right over peoples mouths.

There is a massive backlog already so I say keep it simple and have people sign up after the 1A and 1B and plan logistics from there. Government makes things too confusing most of the time so KISS principle should be advised.
