The Texas Coronavirus Antibody Response Survey, or Texas CARES, is a survey that will help us better understand the human antibody response to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Survey participants will help us measure things like how many people in the survey already have COVID-19 antibodies, and how long those antibodies last.

I started the registration process. Asking participants to enter the latitude and longitude of their clinic is pretty freaking stupid. How many people will know this? Why not just ask for the zip code?

I don't get that either. I left it blank.

I signed up and am going to get my blood drawn today.

Appreciate the link.

Did it a week ago. Once I walked into the lab and had the draw I had my results in 24 hours. Negative for for the antibodies for the record.

Go to google maps. Type in address. Right click on location.

This was super easy, and they have cooperating labs all over Texas, even in relatively small towns. I registered and got a blood draw all in one day, and although she said results in 3-5 business days, I received the results via text in less than 24 hours.

I have antibodies!

For reference, I had a minimal/mild course of symptoms that except for smell/taste resolved within 2-4 days. I have read speculation that mild cases might not confer immunity/produce antibodies (no science to back that up, but I've read it). In my case that did not prove to be true.

However, my husband who had a very similar symptom course - no antibodies.

So weird.

How much blood do they draw? Do you have to go in for follow-up(s) after initial draw?

edit- site says three draws at 0, 3, and 6 months.

One vial, described as a couple of teaspoons. Not too bad, and I am needle phobic.

Thanks. I was asking because my 16yo daughter is... how do I say this... she has panic attacks with throat cultures. She already nixed the idea of giving blood, but could MAYBE do the rapid finger ***** test. As an aside, my 14yo daughter has zero problems and can do the most invasive or anxiety-provoking procedures and she would be "uhhh, whatever." At one of the Auburn away games, she had a loose tooth, and I announced to our section if we needed a change in luck/vib, she was willing to have her tooth yanked. We were down... for got the year... I think our second game there when we were 16 point dogs. We decided to yank the tooth and it was no big deal. People around us started cheering her. I sh** you not, the next play was when the Auburn QB fumbled the snap between his legs, we recovered, and the tides changed. Wow, was a strange tangent... ok thanks for the info.

Lol, I misread. Apparently the process where a phlebologist quickly inserts a small needle to create a blood droplet to pipit is banned. Starts with a P, and rhymes with lick.

p r i c k as in finger is blocked.

lol about your kids.

I am better with needles after 2 kids than I used to be. I volunteered to give blood to see if I could do convalescent plasma but my BP was too high, which I believe is because of the pending blood draw.

I know it is all about the idea and not the actual pain (being phobic myself). It was a needle stick but it wasn't super bad. Less than 5 minutes. More like 2 minutes. She did ask if I would rather lay down, which was nice.

Test. So I know P followed by rick is banned. I know some medical names for male anatomy have been filtered and banned in the past, but the more profane version was not. Test to see if it has been updated in the past few years. Starts with C, 4 letters, and rhymes with Mach.

Cock

another test... Q

Lol, thanks for the response. Yes, I realize with 16yo it is all mental. Mom and Dad are both Clinical Psychologists. It is so embarrassing when we are in a RediClinic trying to get her a throat culture. It is a 40 minute process until they say F it, here is your antibiotic.

I didn't have the antibodies.

Really easy process and I'm glad I know.

I've been around a good amount of positive cases and apparently have managed to not get it. I'm thankful for that.

Any info on this variant of antibody testing vs the rapid 15 min you can get at an urgent care? Is there a validity (failed +/- ) difference

I donated yesterday and they took a lot more than a teaspoon. They texted today that I am negative for antibodies.

If I got dose 1 of Pfizer Thursday, and have antibodies tested Monday or Tuesday (and assume I had never contracted Covid), would the antibody test show positive, or is that not how it works?

I know this one is a teaspoon, but how much is a "normal" blood draw so I could compare that? Like, for an annual physical? I'm fine with needles and all that, but just wondering if I could work out immediately afterward. (I can't with a normal draw because of the injection site being in the elbow.)

Yes, like the regular one from your dr. About the size of index finger.

Yes, it was a standard vial. About half of what is normally taken when I give for a physical.

Ok, I had very slight symptoms 3 weeks ago thought allergies, but took a covid-19 test Jan 18th and tested negative for covid-19.

So I went ahead took the antibody test thru LabCorp, the Deiasorin Liaison Sars-cov-2 s1/s2 IhG assay, and it came back positive for antibodies.

My question what is likely hood I have a false positive antibody test. I am very shocked it came back positive. Thanks

I'm interested in this too. Also, would someone who has had both doses show antibodies a few weeks after the second dose?
