The vaccine gives you antibodies to a specific spike protein in the virus.

Most antibody tests detect the presence of antibodies to a different, more prevalent and easier to detect protein antibody.

Therefore, unless you got an antibody test specifically designed to test for the antibodies expected to be generated from a vaccine (which do exist), you probably won't pick it up.

Unless you are female. They will test for HLA first and then only if that result is ok will they test for covid.

Unfortunately I have a needle phobia so my blood pressure was too high to even get past that first 'give whole blood' step.

This is less blood and specific for antibodies.

Went yesterday morning first thing to a place in Mckinney. They weren't sure what was going on and kept asking me if I was in health care due to the questionnaire they said I needed to fill out. Haven't heard back yet.

Did you give them that requisition number that the company texted you? (Or should have texted you!)

If I got dose 1 of Pfizer Thursday, and have antibodies tested Monday or Tuesday (and assume I had never contracted Covid), would the antibody test show positive, or is that not how it works?
I'm interested in this too. Also, would someone who has had both doses show antibodies a few weeks after the second dose?

I got a negative for antibody response after a few days from Pfizer first. The other poster explained it well.

When I went in Sugar Land, they were a little confused. I had my requisition # ready but they did not want it. Asked the last thre letters of my last name, dob, and were able to pull it up. Walked in and our in about 5 min

I went to the CPL lab in College Station yesterday. They only needed my driver's license. In and out in a few minutes. I got my negative results this morning. I'm 20 days out from Moderna dose #1. Only side effect was a very sore arm for about 24 hours.

It's interesting that I had a negative result. Not because of the vaccine, but because I am out of the house often. I work from home but am in the grocery store, eat out frequently, have a child in high school, and 2 grandkids in daycare that I see daily. I do wear a mask when required and try to be reasonable with social distancing when in public.

Same, I pulled up the number and they didn't want it. I also showed them the main sign up page because they asked who my doctor was that sent me. I was there about 15-20 min total. It was extremely quick once they sat me.

Actually, all successful donations at many centers get tested. Male or female. The HLA test only comes into play if you are a female wanting to donate plasma or platelets.

Less than 24 hours. idk how much of that is the lab, though. This is a small lab in Boerne.

At the time of my blood draw, my lab tech said 3-5 business days but then added it will probably be sooner. Did the lab give any info at the time of the appt?

Mine came in less than 24 hours.

My wife and daughter went the following day (Sugar Land) at the same time. Daughter's text came in 20 hours, wife's text came in 44 hours.

Did it come in today? We have good friends that took it 2 days ago, and yesterday their son tested positive for covid (rapid antigen... not this antibody), and they don't have their results yet. Just 10 minutes ago my wife and I were talking, and she wondered if the labs are closed on weekends, or would they still receive a text.

I had my first symptoms of Covid-19 on October 5. I had a negative nasal swab test on October 6, but my daughter had a positive test several days later. My last symptoms were on October 18, when my fever broke.

I enrolled in Texas Cares and my first blood test on Feb. 8 was positive for antibodies.

I just signed up and the automated text I immediately received made it seem like I could choose the clinic I want from their list and just show up without an appointment. Am I reading that wrong?

Great experience, thanks OP.

Went Monday around 4pm. The lady knew what the Texas CARES program was, and I was in & out in 10 minutes or so. Very smooth and easy process.

Got my results back today (less than 48 hours after testing) and I'm POSITIVE. Wooo Hooooo !!!!!!

Did you not know you had had it, or were you expecting a positive? Also, congrats!

I didn't know I'd had it. I was just curious and was getting tired of worrying that I might get it or be passing it along to someone else unkowingly. There's no telling when I had it. I guess I was relatively asymptomatic.

With that said, I haven't been truly sick since 1989. My dad is the same way. I've always just assumed I have an immune system of steel, but perhaps I get things like the flu every year & am just asymptomatic?

For future reference, I wonder if there's a test for flu antibodies???

I signed up for this in February. My first antibody test was negative and was taken a couple weeks after my first Moderna vaccine. However, the test only tested for natural antibody presence. I had my 2nd antibody test done yesterday (it's been almost 3 months since my second Moderna vaccine). They said that their new antibody test will detect the presence of both vaccine-induced and natural antibody presence. My results were just texted to me and it's positive. It's nice to know I responded to the vaccine.
