I had Moderna dose 2 yesterday morning. By bedtime I had slight aches. By the middle of the night 103.5. With aches and chills.

Anyone else have these effects and how long did they last

The side effects are generally lasting less than 24 hours. Looks like yours are on the rougher end, but not completely uncommon. That fever is high. Would definitely take some Aleve or Tylenol.

It knocked my wife on her ass for about 36 hours. It was worse than her actual Covid.

If it generates this strong of an immune response, it would seem the second shot may not be necessary for some. My sister had only a sore injection point after Moderna shot #2, perhaps she needed it more than others since it didn't set her immune system over the edge?

There is talk that if you had Covid you may not need a second shot, a triple shot at attacking your immune system, specific to this protein spike, may not be necessary. Heck, the first shot may not really be needed if your body built up a strong immunity just from the actual illness.

I assume in a year they'll have a big study result stating who would need 1 vs 2 vs 0 shots, but for now dealing with these issues.

I'm probably oversimplifying it, but my thought is if you have this strong of a reaction then you are going to be SOLID as far as actual immunity to the illness. The vaccine is working, maybe too well, but its working.

I think this is going to end up being correct. Eventually, both the Pfizer and Moderna shots will likely be reduced to one shot vaccines. But until there's more solid data on one shot vs. two, they'll keep doing two.

I got my second dose of Moderna yesterday around noon. Like the OP, just a sore arm when I went to bed but about 2:00 AM I woke up with very bad chills and just couldn't get warm. This morning some body aches but no chills. Fever is just 100 deg. this morning.

Funny thing though my wife got her second shot at the same time and no side effects other than a slight arm soreness. Same thing for a friend of mine who got his second dose about an hour before we did. This morning he said just a little arm soreness, nothing else.

I will surprised if this is the case. The way immunological memory works for most viral infections(especially RNA viruses) requires at least two exposures to induce memory B cells.

I just got rid of the fever over night. I definitely still had a fever at 40 hours after the shot and don't know exactly when it went away after that. The fever didn't start until about 28 hours after the shot but I have felt bad since hour 12. It is the sickest I have been in almost 20 years. I woke up feeling fine so far.

So a vaccine against a mild corona virus caused you to be the sickest you have been in 20 years?

That's odd, dont you think?

I seem to be one of those people who likely need just 1 dose of the Moderna shot. I had a rough case of COVID back in March 2020 and then had a rough 24 hours after the 1st dose of the Moderna. Had severe chills, fatigue, fever up to 102, and nausea and vomiting. It felt a lot like having COVID the first time but was pretty much gone in 24 hours as opposed to the 14 straight days of fever I had with actual COVID.

Haven't had my 2nd dose yet but would have to imagine I have some decent immunity based on my response to the first dose.

Yeah... I believe there was more than a 50% chance that actual Covid would not have made me that sick.

Something I've been wondering...

By volume the amount of material that you're getting in each vaccine versus the viral material actually circulating is pretty wildly different. The immune response to vaccine no. 2 is a sign it's working, and there's a lot of immunological response being manifested.

Is that fair to say?

Already a lot better. Low grade fever that comes and goes. Moderate body aches and chills every once in a while. I just slept through it

Don't worry, the 2nd Chinese flu won't hurt nearly as long.

I had it back in September and yes, the 2nd dose knocked me out for a day much like you're describing and then I had a lingering low level headache for 2 more days after that.

My elderly in-laws had zero side effects with their 2nd shot. Go figure.

Overall not a big deal and well worth it.

I had both doses of Pfizer. Only side effect of both was some jitters (like I had several cups of coffee) for a few hours and a sore arm for a couple of days.

Is the moderna second dose showing rougher side effects than the second dose of Pfizer? Or it it just a coincidence that on this thread most have had moderna?

That is not shocking as the symptoms you feel are due to your young and healthy immune system cranking up.

Honestly with vaccines having temporary adverse effects is a good sign that your body is responding as expected.

Low grade fever and moderate aches when I went to sleep. Ran a low grade fever during the night according to my sleep ring. Woke up without any aches. Woke up sweating and fever feels gone mid morning.

In my area the only Pfizer vaccines were for healthcare workers. Moderna is what everyone else couie schedule.
