My 89 year old mom is getting her 2nd dose of vaccine.

After a few weeks, what do you think she can do reasonably safe. She's in Dallas.

Would she be ok going to church inside?

What can a younger person do safely after they've had the vaccine?

Case counts are dropping, do I figure it's going to be pretty safe to do a lot of things.

My 92-YO MIL is fully vaccinated (2 weeks after 2nd shot)...

She is leaving her assisted living home today for the first time since the COVID shutdown last March to have lunch with grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is the only one in that group that has been vaccinated. Despite all of the teeth gnashing and masking hysteria, I am not worried in the least about her safety with regard to COVID.

My wife and I (both in 1B) are fully vaccinated as of today. We are going to go to COSTCO to celebrate! We may also go to the grocery store, too. Exciting! We plan to stay masked out of respect for others (not because masking is necessary)j.

Is waiting two weeks after second shot really necessary? I read that study from the Pfizer data and it was 92.6% effective in the week prior to shot 2, and 94.8% two weeks after second shot.

Live her life! Is it possible to get it? Technically, but she should be entirely protected from severe covid. And tomorrow has never been guaranteed. It would be a shame at that age to waste any more time not doing the things she enjoys once vaccinated

Not that high for the 65+ crowd, but practically the same. My wife and I made a personal decision for ourselves, based on what we heard and read about the Moderna vaccine. Who knows? Fauci and the CDC change their minds as often as I change my underwear. Who can you believe? Personal decision that I take personal responsibility for...

How do others know you've been vaccinated? So from their POV, they have to determine whether they should give you a wide berth because your an "I don't care about others anti-masker" or an "I'm safe now."

Seems easier to me to keep it while there's others around who I don't know. I really don't get how it's been a big burden (though I guess my attitude might change as the weather gets warmer).

I would consider it respectful to me if you would take your mask off. I enjoy seeing people's faces throughout the day.

As for OP's mom, the only guarantee she has in life is that she will die. No point living out that guarantee in isolation.

America will never be 100% vaccinated. This philosophy will lead to never ever taking masks off. At some point we've got to move on.

I'm an "I don't wear a mask because I'm not sick so you don't have to worry about me". You accidentally left that option off your list.

I will modify our masks to make it as comfortable for me and and Mrs Chip as possible. No filters, very little fabric...

As with most absolute statements, I disagree. At some point, most of us will move on. You will be a trendsetter. Others will follow suit when they feel comfortable to do so.

I plan on getting an armband with the Covid sphereoid on it with Vaccinated in red diagonal through it.

As soon as the vaccine is available like the flu vaccine to just walk in and take then all restrictions need to lift. At that point it is individual responsibility and not a pandemic. You choose your risk.

This virus is endemic now. It's never going away. But life has to go back to normal at some point, and as far as I can tell, there's no better treatment or prevention options on the horizon than the vaccines, which, thankfully, are very effective.

Once the last couple of my high-risk family member get the vaccine, my guard will be coming way down. Once the rest of my healthy family members and I have had it, we will all be 100% back to normal. At that point this virus just something we have to live with and accept as a risk of daily life.

I will continue to wear masks without argument where required by private business owners out of respect for their private property rights, and their employees. And just not to be an A hole to someone trying to do their job. But that has more to do with manners and common courteousy than anything.

The vaccine is way more effective than three masks could ever be. You did your part by getting the vaccine. Now it's time to unmask and live life normally.

The stupid thing about all of this is that people aren't usually getting Covid in public places like stores anyway. Your mask isn't helping now and wasn't helping then. It's all just a show and always has been. Most of the spread has been in places where people gather with no masks and spend a significant amount of time together indoors.

I didn't leave that off an accident. There was an "I'm not sick, so you don't have to worry about me" at a socially distanced luncheon my wife attended that ended up quarantining several families over Christmas, infected 3 more people, sent one to the hospital for 2 weeks who's still on oxygen and hopes to be able to walk across the room by summertime.

Wear the mask because you care about your fellow human beings.

There's no evidence that masks work at a large scale. You can look at chart after chart after chart comparing states with mask mandates and masks do absolutely nothing.

Stop using emotion to justify anything you do.

I've yet to see an anti mask person get up in someone's face for wearing one yelling at them to take it off. So you have that right.

Also depends on the situation. Are they requiring masks because that is how they feel, or because of social obligation and/or legal pressure?

If they don't really care/enforce it, I won't be wearing one then, either. Even if they technically have it as a rule.

Of course, this is how I feel even before getting the vaccine, let alone after.

Also depends on the situation. Are they requiring masks because that is how they feel, or because of social obligation and/or legal pressure?
