I had a random headache today so I took two Aleve. An hour later I got a call because I'm on a standby list in case someone cancels their vaccination appointment. They said if I came in right away I could take their appointment. So I did, and got the second shot. I haven't had any pain whatsoever, three hours later. I know some of the side effects take awhile, but my wife had extreme arm pain almost IMMEDIATELY. My question is, did I just downgrade the vaccine's effectiveness because I unknowingly took pain relievers before my shot?

Not much help specifically to you, but I do know several friends that were advised by their medical buddies to do exactly what you did prior to their shot -- take Aleve or such to reduce the chance of pain prior to their shot. There is so much "sidewalk" advice out there that I've concluded no one knows what is going on. In short, you followed exactly what some medical folks have been suggesting others do.

Actually that IS helpful, thanks!
Quick update, 12 hours in...more arm pain but not much. Seems like a tiny fraction of my wife's pain (and what I've read on here). No other symptoms yet either. As weird as it sounds, I want SOMETHING to happen so I know I didn't get a placebo hahah

I'm more interested in the process of getting your 2nd shot in this method. I've heard countless stories like yours regarding 1st dose but the 2nd dose has a more specific time frame. When did you get 1st dose?

Exactly 28 days ago yesterday. But all appointments were booked until next week. So I asked if I could get on the waiting list because I'm SO ready to get this over with! And it worked out, except for possibly the Aleve thing.

That's good...congrtats! I doubt the Aleve impacts the vaccine.

Update, if interested: I ended up having the same symptoms, just shifted about 24 hours from when my wife had hers. Everything seemed less intense though, except for the arm pain. That was no joke! I wonder if the Aleve just delays the inevitable.

Actually I think your reaction is more common (symptoms the day after) and your wife's symptoms coming on immediately are a bit of an outlier.

Glad you are vaccinated now

Our dr. Are saying tylenol works better for shot side effects than advil. I don't even know whether alleve is tylenol or ibuprofen based. Planning on just popping a few tylenol and hoping for best.

Aleve is naproxen (NSAID similar to ibuprofen)
Tylenol is acetaminophen

I am 18 hours in after 2nd dose Moderna and like previous poster said, more arm pain, but few other symptoms to note.

26 hours in, low grade fever and Tylenol helped about an hour later..

Fever lasted about 12 hours, tiredness and general malaise...48 hours later and all gone.

I am 24 hours in with Pfizer Round 2 . . . .I had some minor arm pain last night and popped a Tylenol. Nothing so far today but several folks I have talked to were zapped almost 36 hours after injection.

Ive had lingering Covid symptoms for 9.5 months and Tylenol Sinus Severe is the only medicine that helps.
