People mocked me for using the term "permanently damaged" in another thread. Well, children are impressionable and if the adults they trust keep fearing for their livesthen, yeah, both adults and kids will be permanently affected.

I have relatives like this, too. They'll pal around with their friends but have a different set of rules for their family. Oh, I forgot to add "who have a different political ideology than them" at the end of last statement.

Loons and liars.

I'm with you 100%.

My sister said all of their peers in Colorado are vaccinated or will be ASAP and they plan on vaccinating their kids too, regardless of age or actual risk. We and the vast majority of our peers here are completely opposite.

I wonder how the new CDC guidelines will impact her thinking? I'd like to send them to her with a hearty "I told you so" but she's too spun up to handle it.

However, you've hit upon the most unsettling and depressing thing about this for me. The complete and utter lack of reason, rational analysis, and coherent thought from people I thought were rational and intelligent. And furthermore, the complete willingness to accept all these governmental restrictions with no pushback whatsoever as to their necessity, efficacy, or scope. Especially vis a vis, the economy and individual rights. I expect less liberty-minded thinking from people in many other countries like Canada, Australia, and New Zealand but when you see these videos of the police literally beating people for leaving their homes or refusing to wear a mask on the beach or sending a SWAT team to arrest a pastor for holding worship sessions it's abundantly clear what sheep people are and how willing they are to accept tyranny and fascism in order to mitigate an almost nonexistent risk.

There's a complete divide between myself and my sister/sister's family and between my parents and my sister.

My sister refused to let my vaccinated 70 year old parents (who live in a different state and who she hasn't seen in over 2 years) see her 12 & 6 year old boys because "they could get her kids sick".

The boys have zero underlying health conditions. She has 100% bought into the hysteria. She has flat-out told my parents and me that we cannot speak to her anymore because we don't agree with her views anymore. How did this split happen? Because on a group text several months ago I said I was angry at the damage this whole thing was doing to the children. And how children were paying the ultimate price for all of this over-reaction and hysteria. I guess it struck a nerve with her so she said we weren't allowed to talk to her or her kids anymore.

Nevermind that I don't speak politics with her (because I know her and her husband are uber-liberal). Yet she has, on multiple occasions, given me grief and called me out about my political views. I've never once said a word to her about her voting for Obama or Biden. But she constantly dumped on me about the fact that I voted for Trump the second time he ran. And then I guess the straw that broke the camel's back was that I had the nerve to make a blanket statement that children were being harmed by this COVID hysteria and it infuriated me. My stepmom agreed with me. So my sister disowned us all. No conversation about it. Just said we weren't allowed to speak to her anymore. And my parents weren't allowed to see her kids.

Was planning a trip to see my Stepmom 75 yo with copd and two stepbrothers were completely against it.

Stepmom picks up the phone and calls. "Come visit whenever you like, I have a list of chores I need you to do and let's not tell your brothers..." So we went...

Things just work out.

Eesh....I think I would have just said we can't visit due to covid.

Oh, and I think there was a lifetime movie with a similar premise, the stepmom having a list of "chores" that you shouldn't tell anyone about.

Hasn't changed my relationship with my sister-in-law. She was stupid before the masks and vaccine and she is still stupid. Hard to fix stupid.

For my parents when they were still alive they lacked for nothing. All they wanted was to see us and the kids.

Whenever I show up there's always a list of things that need to be done that they can't do themselves and haven't yet paid for someone else to do. Only stepmom and MIL left. I'm more than happy to assist in any way I can.

Especially IF THEY ASK!

It's sweet that you watch Lifetime and Hallmark movies. Says a lot.

Went to a charity fundraising event last night with 400+ in attendance

I didn't see a single mask.

Beer, wine, and liquor. Music and dancing. It was good for the psyche to see normal again!
