How long do you want to ignore this user?

I see a lot of comments saying vaccine and masks are to thank, but really how much are masks to thank?

For the past month ball games have been going on, and pretty much no one in the stands wears a mask while seated. Especially at the Astro games I've been going to. 0 social distancing and no masks in most of the stadium seating.

Something we first saw with Covid last year in the initial outbreaks in Europe were mass spreading at sporting events where people were close together without masks where lots of talking and yelling were going on. This certainly is happening at sporting events now in Texas and Florida.

Yet we still are seeing declining numbers. So is this mostly just vaccine and heard immunity?

LMAO at those still clinging to masks. It's truly incredible at this point.

AT BEST, masks had minimal impact, so small it's really hard to gauge in any scientifically significant study. At worst, they made it worse by giving high risk individuals more security than they actually provided, and maybe caused them to do some things not in their best interests out of that security. But in reality, there is still NO REAL WORLD DATA to show they had any effectiveness.

Vaccines, natural immunity, and seasonality. That's it. That's why are numbers are where they are. Lets see the effect of the potential seasonal curve in June/July versus the immunity levels. I think immunity wins again, and the bump is slight, with hospitalizations and deaths decoupled from cases more and more by the day.

Also, where are you seeing that there was mass spread at the stadiums? I'm pretty positive that most of the spread of those evens was thought to occur in public transit or the bars/night life after the event. I know that was the prevailing thought of many with regards to the Italian soccer game.

The Italy/Spain champions league match was certainly the most publicized. I saw a piece awhile back that had looked at a lot of the first infected and compared their seating arrangements and found that they were clumped together around infected people. Makes sense, you are basically being showered in micro droplets of people screaming all game behind you.

Maybe so. With zero immunity it could happen.

The same people who say it's because of voluntary masking are the ones who said masks weren't working because not enough were wearing them before. It's mind boggling.

Our downtown building lifted the mask requirement this morning.

Weird how such a similar situation here didnt lead to outbreaks with all the protests. Actually it should be worse, since the crowds were constantly moving while shouting "kill whitey!", thus increasing the potential spread to more people clumped together, instead of smaller pockets limited to those around you in a stadium.

Why hasn't science studied the immunity of protestors? You would think that since that scenario has some natural resistance against covid that medical researchers would have focused on why or how they had better protection than other groups who are pushed against each other while yelling continuously (including people in baseball games who are 30 feet apart in outside stadiums, while required to wear masks and who have mandatory proof of immunization or negative tests, all while cheering with not nearly the force of what you see at soccer games).

A true enigma. We may never truly understand...

Your sarcasm confuses me. We DID see infection rates here skyrocket 2 weeks after the large protests and demonstrations in the streets.

I think what he's saying is, the media excused all cases that might have been associated with that. Meanwhile businesses were shut down while this was occurring, but it was all cool.

I think the protests did lead to outbreaks, but there was a large effort to not blame the outbreaks on protests.

I anecdotally know of 2 outbreaks that were due to summer protests. I am sure a real study would reveal significantly more.

Of course protests led to outbreaks! Duh! Youd have to be a blind moron and a partisan hack not to realize this. However to some, the virus "stayed away" from protests.

The official narrative is protests did not lead to breakout. Further, systemic racism is another pandemic which requires people to make calculate risk - such as not wearing masks in crowded places.

Sarcasm, yes. But ask anyone in California, as an example, and protesting wasn't a source of spread.

Hence why newsom shut down literally every other form of gatherings of people except for outdoor protesting. He did at least ban indoor protesting, so I guess that's something.

Anyone with a brain knows that protesting was a huge source of spread.

Meh. I don't think anything outside was "a huge source of spread". Sure, there was some, but we know how much safer outdoors is than indoors.
