Yesterday according to DSHS we had 889 new confirmed cases, 24 older confirmed cases, 144 new probable cases, 0 older probable cases and 1 new fatality. However if you google Covid texas. It says our new case count yesterday was 2553. Why the discrepancy?

I would suggest using 7 day totals or averages. Many counties have quit reporting every day of the week, and even gone to reporting once a week.

Yeah once a week would be a lot better for our brains.

We need to get away from counting cases and just track hospitalizations and deaths.

Most of us were saying that a year ago. Yet the case counting obsession continues. It's complete madness.

I completely understood counting cases in July of 2020, not so much now.

Cases are in important leading indicator. It's important for evaluating efficacy of the vaccines as the virus evolves etc. As long as we understand cases are only ~1/3 of what they were pre vaccine in terms of significance.
