Which vaccine?

I'm someone who has taken a wait-and-see approach with regard to the vaccines. Lately I've been researching the vaccines more closely and am trying to make a decision whether to take one of them, and if so, which one. I'm not in any high risk group. (And I'm not here to debate the merits of my approach to date.)

My inclination is to go with J&J so that I can be one and done -- the issues it has had seem to be behind it.

Thoughts please.

I think the mRNA vaccines will be more effective both short and long term. Also think mRNA vaccines are less risky - albeit all of them have negligible risk.

Really wanted the one and done as well, but went with Pfizer last week. Heard mainly great things about it. Shoulder was a little sore the next day but no other setbacks (actually did a three hour bike / run workout the next day).

Given all the data and info I have I'd probably go with Pfizer if given the option. Moderna would be second choice. 6 months ago I'd have gone with JnJ probably just for convenience to get it over with.

I live in the UK and was not given the choice and ended up with AstraZeneca which I'm fine with so my experience isn't really that much of a help. (I had flu like symptoms after the first dose that started about 12 hrs after getting it and ended almost exactly 24 hrs later, no symptoms after the second dose a few weeks later).

Yes, as age decreases, mRNA have been deemed slightly safer. The UK only offers Pfizer or Moderna to under 40s while almost everyone 40+ ended up with AstraZeneca.

Either of the mRNA vax's would be my suggestion.

Why not the J&J? Just curious.

Okay but what if you've recovered from Covid. Does the lower efficacy of the J&J matter since your body should already be producing antibodies?

We know these aren't accurate now, don't we?

I'd do J&J. You aren't high risk and it will do a great job at preventing serious illness or death for you.

Pfizer isn't performing at that level against Delta. See the Israel data. The graph says COVID prevention.

We shouldn't be defensive when the vaccines don't meet the clinical trial numbers. Variants are going to affect the numbers. The vaccines still appear to be very good at preventing serious illness. But that chart is no reason to choose one over the other IMO.

Based on us hospitalization numbers they are performing at that level.

Well, the graph says "Covid 19 prevention." Is it mislabeled? Should it say "hospitalization prevention?"

Ok so you want to play the technical game? OH OKAY

the graphic is accurate since it's specifically talking about the clinical trials and nothing else.

Cool your jets. I'm not being "technical." I never said the graph was inaccurate for clinical trials. I said it's inaccurate against the Delta variant and I wouldn't use it to make a vaccine decision. Go have some CBD and chill.

It is just a comparison graphic with trial data as a baseline to help one choose. And it notes that efficacy may differ with new variants.

We should and do know a lot more now and will continue to know more as time goes on. They actually appear to be way more effective against severe illness and death than the developers ever thought they would be.

The right answer is to consult with your doctor and not fight about it on the internet.

If you read the actual studies their efficacy is specifically geared to illness, not infection.

Moderna seems to be doing ok.
