They consistently dominate their conference, giving them a good W/L% for RPI, and they're relatively easy to beat for an elite team. Basically an RPI goldmine.

#10 Minnesota, a team we beat in August just lost to unranked Michigan 3-1! At this point I just want upsets for seeding purposes. Sometime next week I'll start a bracketology thread!

It wasn't just 3-1, they lost the last 3 sets 25-12, 25-14, 25-12. I wonder if someone was injured for the Gophers, because they were run out of the gym.

Those were the first 3 sets Michigan won in its first 3 Big 10 matches.

Edits - saw on VT the Gophers were down some players.

RPI Futures have us with 5 more losses including the SEC tourney

That would put us on the border of hosting but i think on correct side of line

That said another huge win would help and no unexplainable losses can get us to the 3 line IMO

I hope they dont take the tournament too seriously I honestly hate the SEC tournament. No big league does it and it can cause strain on the athletes body right before the real deal.

what was the reasoning behind this change this year?

most conferences will be going to it in the futre i heard as well
Vandy adding vb gave the league 15 matches round robin home and away every two years and the way the setup for the VB tourney allows the top teams to play again so iron sharpens iron and RPI. And gives a chance...albeit small for those at the bottom of the conference to make NCAA as the tourney champ will get the auto bid i believe

Being destroyed at home that badly and dropping to 7-6 probably still won't see the No. 16 Nittany Lions falling more than 1-3 spots below No. 20 at worst (currently occupied by Tennessee at 12-1).
