3 conference games played, 3 conference games won. Now it's onto the 4th one, this afternoon in Tuscaloosa. Your 9th ranked Texas A&M Aggie Volleyball team will play on the road in Tuscaloosa today at 2pm.
Alabama was picked last in the conference preseason poll. They played one of the weakest non conference schedules where they went 8-2 with wins over: UNC Asheville, Jacksonville, UAB, Chattanooga, Wake Forest, Western Carolina, North Alabama, and Memphis, and with losses to Cincinnati and UCF. They have started conference 0-3 with losses to Auburn, Florida, and Miss State. So 1 power 4 win so far this season. They lost a lot from their team last year to the portal.
This season they run a lot of their offense through OH Victoria Barrett, although she is undersized at 5'9. They also have a setter Hannah Parant who has 32 aces on the season. They do have some solid serving numbers, but could be a product of their light schedule because in conference play they've had lots of service errors. They have one strong middle blocker in Sarah Stevens who stands at 6'4. South Carolina's 6'5 middle was giving us fits early on.
For us I believe if we stay up tempo and have a great first touch we should run a smooth and efficient offense. Serving has been better but still not as consistent. Ifenna Cos-Okpalla has become a force from the service line. I'd love to a couple more players get some aces today! It's another game on the road, it's imperative we come out with some energy and power on the road. We came out sluggish against South Carolina on Wednesday.
It's clear we are the more talented team, but we can't be lackadaisical this afternoon and we can't be looking ahead to a potential top ten matchup on Wednesday. Let's get in there, get out to a strong start, and get out of there fast! BTHO bama!!!
