I suppose she lost her job, she played sparingly throughout conference play. She had a rough stretch through conference play then I guess came off the bench, this was around the time TCU was struggling and started picking up losses.

Kind of odd with how good she looked early on. Hit a freshman slump, but TCU's setters weren't really impressive.

Who are we likely to lose? Hernandez? Stanjovich? Is Manning ensured that she will start her last year? You best believe that Stowers is gonna get significant NIL thrown at her.

It'll be interesting, we'll have 13 on the roster without any additions. So we'll have up to 5 portal transfers to add should we choose to do so.

Hernandez is a generational Aggie as well, so unsure if she'll leave. Stanojevic it'll depend on how she enjoys being so far from overseas and if we bring in multiple middles in the portals.

As for setter, we'll have Margot Manning coming off an injury and 6'2 Kirra Musgrove. I wonder how Jamie feels about them leading the offense. Manning can also be a serving specialist for us as well. I wonder if we go grab a setter since there will only be two on the roster.

Possibility of going back to a 2 setter system like in Jamie's first year? We went away from the 2 setters in 24. I assume Waak stood out enough that it made more sense to keep her on the court as much as possible. Waak and Manning each played sets early in the season but we settled on Waak by conference play.

I would be nervous counting on Manning to be THE setter and have her pull up lame again. I'm sure almost a year of recovery means she is fully healed.

Waak is elite in setting middles and we had two really good ones that could terminate the ball easily. Haven't seen enough of Musgrove to understand her skill set. Only the coaches know but I would favor a 6-2 at the beginning.

Waak and the 5-1 is because she stood out more than the other at setting but more importantly to keep Lednicky on the court as full time 6 rotation RS more than anything.

That isn't going to be an option IMO next year depending on portal additions. Could I see a 6-2 system again yes for two years maybe. Musgrove and Manning then Musgrove and maybe Peterson for a year but who knows.

I do know that it seems they have created a culture here that players want to be in. Guinn could have easily transferred this past year and played somewhere

She choose to likely get a degree from here and be a part of this team but not step foot on the court to get to do it somewhere else. And while a degree from TAMU matters. Not many girls would do that unless it is something people want to be a part of

My girls played against Manning and Musgrove in HS and Club. Musgrove is an elite setter and will be an upgrade from Waak in the blocking department. I would put Musgrove up against Cassie O'Brien at Kentucky (also a Skyline alum) all day and O'Brien was SEC freshman of the year. Don't see how Morrison doesn't run 5-1 with her next year.

Is a 6-1 required for the opposite to be on the court for 6 full rotations? I guess being opposite the setter implies subbing a setter and an opposite is typical.

I expect Kyndal to remain a 6 rotation player, but I guess being an outside doesn't affect the setter rotation.

At least at one point, Kyndal was introduced as an outside/opposite. Obviously with Logan on the court, you have Kyndal as an outside, but I wonder if Jamie tries her at opposite at some point. Obviously would depend on your next best pin.

Right now, I'd say Fitch is the next best pin from what we have seen on the court. Could we see a 6-1 with Kyndal as opposite and Fitch as the starting outside?

6-2 with Musgrove hitting in the front row? She has a dynamic arm too

No, 5-1 means there is one setter on the court at all times. An opposite doesn't have to play all the way around. You can still put a DS in the backrow for them as needed. But the ideal long is there. 1 setter and 1opposite in the main rotation, with the setter playing all the way around.

I agree with this. Guess it depends on who we bring in. Next year, we will have very good defense and ball control. Fitch and Stowers in the back row, Applegate and Rodriguez at L/DS. I think Rodriguez is going to end up being an all time Aggie great. She brings something to the position we haven't seen since Gomez

Disagree there, OBrien was light years better. Musgrove is tall and a lefty so almost "forced" to become a setter. She doesnt move like Obrien and certainly doesnt have the hands Obrien does. I honestly could see Musgrove become a OPP hitter with a frame similar to Logan after maturing.

OK, but for a 6-2, does the setter have to sub for the opposite, or can you sub the setters with the middles and allow the opposite to play all the way around?

Doesn't seem like it should matter as your front row is going to shift around at serve to all get to their places anyway.

I guess that also leads to is there value in a back row attack with 3 hitters in the front row. That seems complicated and would require the back row hitter to be good on back row defense since you don't want the setter taking the first hit.

you can do it that way however it isnt traditonal and then you have to decide who the libero comes in for to shore up the defense

If you had solid passing opposites and below average OH passers then it could work especially if one setter has a great connection with one middle and the other setter the other middle

That said that is a lot of things to have to have with the roster for that to work

a 6-2 system can work and has been done at college level a lot but you have to have two solid opposites and/or setter who is a hitter and stays in the front row

I thought Cassie was better during club as well but height for block made Musgrove stand out more to the average person

I am intrigued as to how the roster and lineup for next season will be but still completely focused on Sweet 16 and potential Elite 8 game this weekend

Loryn Hegelson - Opposite from Utah State

She had 11 kills against us, 14 in their first round upset against Tennessee and 19 in round 2 against Arizona State.

I hope we start attracting some super star level players just because it elevates the perception of the program. But, I don't want to just take anyone if they come with baggage. In the end, I trust Jamie is able to train any player who comes over to be the best player she can be!

The transfer portal is already loaded….. Florida is getting gutted rn.

Florida and Tennessee, that's two whole programs with at 5 or more in the portal.

I think Florida may be able to get Marquette's top players that are in the portal since their coach was from there. Tennessee is the shocking one. South Carolina lost their best player, Ole Miss lost their best players, Mizzou lost a couple starters. The SEC is crumbling.

Thankful everyday for our staff

Big12 freshman of the year Suli Davis (BYU) apparently entered the portal with a "do not contact" tag. The 6'2" OH attended Colleyville Heritage HS. Someone is getting a nice upgrade with 3 years of eligibility left.

Do not contact usually means already planning somewhere.

Look for SMU to be front runners

Multiple actually.
Institute bldg is at George Bush and Dexter
Stake Center is at Deacon and Welsh.
Another one on Barak Lane in Bryan.

Although they prefer Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints which is a better google search and what is on the signs out front.

Couple alternative possibilities.

She might be planning on going on a mission. BYU deals with that regularly, so doesn't seem like she would need to enter the portal.

Maybe she got married and is following husband as he goes to grad/professional school (or gets a job) and she wants a program closer to where he will be.
