Some football players wear it. Meant to prevent head/neck recoil if hit. She had a history of several concussions. Not sure that's the exact reason why she wears it.

She's very prone to concussions (hence the initial medical retirement from Baylor). So she wears that to mitigate any future spikes to the face.
