No idea, but it would be awesome! It was fun watching the tournament last year. TCU became the first non California school to win.

Houston Christian
SFA
A&M Corpus Christi
TCU
Tu
UTEP

Are all schools in Texas with a beach volleyball program, along with other D2 and D3 schools

Honestly build a beach volleyball bar with a dedicated portion for the team and it can make some money. Too many beach programs and interest in the state of Texas to not have a varsity program at A&M

Was that the place on Harvey near Texas that had a sand court in the back? If so, I played there many a days in my undergrad summers.

We had a sand court in front of Law Hall that was so much fun as well.

Trev Albert's had a program going at Nebraska and A&M already has a facility suitable for it.

Is Keathley Beach still a thing?

Is Keathley even a thing?

natural beach. I mean, except no water... oh, and no sand.

Texas A&M Beach Volleyball should be played on campus in Galveston

It would be huge there since it would be the only sport on campus. Also lots of Aggies in the Galveston/south Houston area

The team could share players, coaches and facilities with the indoor team in College Station for additional support

An outdoor sand court can't be outrageously expensive to build. So it would be a low start up cost. Also could have the potential to cover costs with revenue if it becomes popular enough. Plus beach volleyball is meant to be played on the beach. Much better atmosphere if there's Galveston bay and all the sea Aggie facilities etc surrounding the court

Having both indoor and beach going year round would give both teams a boost in fans and support. Win-win

Anecdotally, myself and a good amount of people fell in love with the game first because of olympic beach volleyball. Atlanta 1996. All the great women's teams over the years. It's an amazing sport to watch and play

The sand in Galveston is miserably hard/packed. Maintaining a D1 level court would probably be cheaper with a manmade setup in college station. (I've played in Galveston tourneys - not a fan)

We need to drop Equestrian since there are only like 12 teams that participate and its not a NCAA sport. Let's pick up Beach Volleyball and Gymnastics.

Beach vb is up to 18 women's scholarships and it's inexpensive. NIL and title 9 might have athletic depts looking to replace more expensive women's sports like gymnastics.

In the nil era we better get a beach team fast... Elite players that do both will pick from schools that have it... Why handcuff our program in any way? Especially for a sport that people would attend...

My guess they are talking about our sand courts at the Rec center.

We have to have intercollegiate gymnastics first to replace it…

Sam Houston St. and Tarleton also have D1 beach programs.

Would be interesting to get our HC's feelings, especially if his court players wanted to do both.

It does seem to make sense for marketing/interest for the Galveston campus for sure.

She still has eligibility?

She graduated this semester in 3.5 years of college, so she still technically has a spring semester. When transitioning to beach volleyball, you're given a 5th year, so she'll have two seasons

I'm curious from those that know more about VB, what are the benefits and drawbacks to having a beach team utilizing indoor players?

Do most schools utilize the indoor team for both or have separate team? I know Nebraska has a team that uses primarily indoor players while LSU appears to have a separate team.

Emily Hellmuth left for LSU Beach Volleyball.

Most new beach programs start with players from their indoor team and increase beach players so it's 100% in a couple or a few years. It's rare to play both, there was one '27 commitment (to tu) who was going to play indoor and beach but even she already switched to beach only.

Indoor players would rather play beach than do off season training, indoor coaches of course want them indoor. Teams of indoor players playing beach haven't been a factor at beach national championships or at all that ive seen.

You have 5 years from the time you began college to play 4 seasons and beach is a spring sport, so she should have this spring plus 26-27.

I could only see this happening if we can realize massive athletic department savings. Our equestrian facility is almost brand new and we're heavily invested in it.

It's over 10 years old now. I just think there is too much cooperation with AD and academic side on this one for the AD to walk away and start another sport

Other thing, the Rec center is land locked now. Well,it,was before. But unless they e,inset the fire lane it would.be hard to expand existing rec center sand courts. I don't see them building stand alone set of courts unless it's off campus and city of Bryan or CS pay for it

There are several top 20 indoor programs that cross train in the sand.

We used to have a saying that goes any decent beach player can play indoors but not every good indoor player can play beach.

Texas A&M is almost a decade behind establishing a Beach Team and Title IX can sometimes be an obstacle as much as its supports.

Would she have had indoor eligibility left? No, right?

Does she gain an extra year bc she's technically switching sports or what
