PVF (rebranding as MLV) is your typical pro sports league. Teams are independent owned like other pro sports leagues. Includes a draft, etc.

League one. LOVB Pro is a pro league offshoot of League One, which a big community of youth volleyball clubs. They have a built in fan base of the local kids involved in the local clubs. Players on the pro teams are also involved in the youth programs to some extent. Teams are/were owned by the league, but they are bringing in local investors to buy/invest in individual teams. Players are signed to the league and then assigned to the team, so no draft. Also, teams can't cut players.

Athletes unlimited is athlete driven/owned, like other AU sports. Basically a bunch of athletes coming together to play tournaments. Usually several weeks of tournaments at one location. Teams are basically mixed up/re drafted every week.

Each has a very different model, so consolidation would be interesting. Although, I'm not sure it is necessary yet. Both LOVB and PVF are actively expanding and the audience is growing.

LOVB picks players for teams to drum up local interest. Probably why Lednicky ended up in Houston?

All I know is LOVB Austin are half longhorns and when you go to their games, it's just fans rooting for their beloved players.

My hope is that there is one main league that is modeled liked all regular professional leagues.

Very cool. Will catch a match since I'm in Atlanta metro.

Wishing nothing but good things for all the seniors in volleyball or beyond.

PVF/MLV is modeled like all regular professional leagues.

Just not sure there is any motivation for LOVB Pro to merge into that model. LOVB Pro is an extension of their main focus with the youth programs, so potentially subsidized by the youth parents. Also, from AI, LOVB pays a little better on average than PVF, even though both have a similar 60k league minimum.

Both leagues have teams in Atlanta (LOVB Atlanta, Atlanta Vibe). It will be interesting to see how that works out there.

Also Ifenna being drafted in PVF but signing with LOVB creates an interesting challenge for the PVF draft.

I don't think anyone on that side thought she was coming. They drafting her towards the end and similar to a late round baseball pick they just wanted to have their draft negotiation rights "in case". She woulda been one for the first picks if any of those PVF teams thought she was available.

This is a good overview of the merger of Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF) and Major League Volleyball.

https://provolleyball.com/news/2025/08/volleyball-leagues-announce-historic-plan-the-new-mlv

And this article provides a bit more background of why they merged.

https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Articles/2025/08/04/pro-volleyball-federation-major-league-volleyball-to-merge-expand-in-third-season/

So, is anyone buying into these new leagues? If you have the bucks, might be worthwhile. Much more interesting then women's basketball in my opinion.

How cool would it be if all leagues merged into one and you could showcase this sport at the highest level with the top athletes in the country while also attracting international talent…
