Howdy my fellow NCAA Volleyball National Championship Aggies fans and welcome back to another spring match game thread. Our ladies are back in Aggieland this weekend for a huge two game Saturday. It's time we elevate the completion even more and this weekend we welcome Baylor for game 1 and a top ten team in SMU for the night cap.
Last time out the Aggies traveled to Houston to take on TCU and Rice for 3 set matches. The Aggies fell 2-1 to TCU and beat Rice 2-1. Poster Jaydoug had some great updates throughout the match. Seemed like we did a great job serving. We also saw a lot of different rotations and substitutions. That's what I believe is most important to Jamie right now. With a largely new team, he needs to find the right pieces and the right connections together. Especially with new setters and many new hitters offensively, finding things like timing and chemistry are what's most important. Im curious how we look in our 5th and 6th spring matches!
Baylor is always a solid squad. Last season Baylor finished 18-10 before falling in the second round to Purdue in 4 sets. They bring back a solid core, led by their setter Harley Kreck. They also bring back a good contingent of hitters led by Ksenia Rakhmanchik who's was their leader in kills and first team all Big 12. They return their leader in blocks as well, and brought in a great freshman blocker from Houston Skyline and one through the portal.
The even more difficult match will be against SMU (portal merchants). SMU for the past two seasons have been a top ten team that's fallen in the sweet sixteen. Both teams have been littered with portal transfers and this team is no different. They have a smaller roster, but they are headlined by transfers, Suli Davis (BYU), Gabi Placide (Ole Miss) Ava Sarafa (Kentucky, Victoria Harris (South Carolina) and two of their biggest returners being USC transfers lol. They have been rolling this spring and will be heavy favorites next year to be a top ten team led by their dynamic pin hitters. While I think they're are a dominant team, come December I'd love to face them
our team now will be completely different from the team that faces them in August at the AVCA first serve.
Tomorrow should be a fun weekend all over West Campus! We got the return of Judas in Blue Bell Park, we got our track squads in a great meet at home, and we got our volleyball team in two matches. They are spread out to give you time to attend other Aggie sporting events! Go cheer on our ladies at 11:30, then go to baseball, then go to track, then go to volleyball, then go back to track! There will be some high level volleyball played tomorrow at Reed, go out and cheer on our national champions!
