Thought I'd list our projected rosters out so we can understand where we're at scholarship wise and depth wise. The maximum number of scholarships is 18, but it's acceptable to carry less. For this upcoming season we are at 16.

It won't be a problem this season but going into 2027 with 4 setters and 5 middle blockers seems a little excessive. I'm sure there will be roster departures and shakeups with the portal and NIL, both incoming and outgoing. There's also the issue on whether our staff chooses to utilize the 5th year options if that rule were to pass or if they choose to be selective on who to keep for a 5th year.

It's a unique sport getting to recruit multiple years out and I'm sure somewhere in Jamie's office is the magical depth chart board with even 2029 and 2030 targets on it lol.

Let's see who wants to join Mortensen in the 2028 class!

The log jam at setter will likely clear itself up. I don't believe Nicholson has any more eligibility after this season (she never redshirted). Kirra Musgrove is a great player as well but I think Sophee Peterson is going to be a Day 1 starter so it will be interesting to see if she tries to become a hitter or transfers. No idea what Manning is going to do but I don't see a great path for her to see significant playing time here at this point.

I was really worried about replacing Ifenna and Perkins but all of a sudden it looks like we have some real depth at MB and the cream will rise to the top. Stowers for two more years is incredible. Fitch is really good too and patiently waiting her turn.

I'd say I'm most concerned about the Right Side at this point...we will see how that shakes out.

Agreed on all your great points! I think Nicholson would have one more year if the 5 years to play rule comes into affect soon. But I too think it's Peterson's job next year, she's incredible! On the right side I hope Lacewell and Morris push each other all summer and fall, hopefully the best one rises there! It'll be interesting to see how everything unfolds in August

I wonder if Fitch plays right side...I think she is too good to keep off the court. She may also be the replacement for Ring next year.

I don't know much about Lacewell and we barely saw Morris attacking last year (she would come in to block at times). Very interested to see how that shakes out but if Coach Morrison was concerned about it I'm sure he would have gone out and attacked it in the portal.

One thing that stands out to me is how the growth the players have shown year after year in Morrison's system. So I'm excited to see how much better Fitch and Morris are after a year of learning from the staff and from the veterans in front of them! 2027 recruit 6'5 Isabel Incinelli will be hard to keep off the court as well, she was an All American and Florida's Gatorade Player of the year this last season.

But I like how versatile Fitch is and the solid passer she is. I think she had the game winning assist against Louisville and had some key serves and digs in the tourney!

Do you see Incinelli as a middle or an outside hitter? She has the length of a middle but we seem to have a lot of depth there.

Because of that I would say outside hitter. It seems early on she was a middle, but is a full time pin hitter now! Maybe could easily be an opposite as well! That'll be interesting to follow too

I don't believe Stowers would get a 5th year since she already medically redshirted a year, correct?
*Edit: I see what you did there, my bad

I've also seen Patton listed as MB/OPP - feels like several of the middles have this flexibility to develop either/both directions.

This will absolutely have to happen, in 2028 we have 7 middles lol

I took a stab at this as well:

2026: Stowers (OH - 6 rotation), Ring (OH - 6 rotation), Castle (MB), Sharp (MB), Morris (RS), Fitch (RS), Nicholson (Setter), Applegate (DS), Rodriguez (Libero)

Role TBD: Lacewell, Musgrove, Stanojevic, Manning, Hernandez, Thedford

Am I underestimating anyone in my TBD section? Personally, I'd like to see Fitch move of to the right side and I won't be shocked if they try it. If not, Lacewell is probably next up. Not sure if Fitch is a good enough blocker to play RS since she would be blocking the opponents OH. But she was a much higher rated recruit than Morris or Lacewell and played a role on our title team last year...she needs to get on the court. I never know what to make of Stanojevic but interested to see if she beats on of the two transfers out. Lastly, Musgrove was a very highly rated player out of high school (higher than Nicholson) but I just don't think don't think we are going to run a 4-2 and I don't think a player as good as Nicholson would transfer to sit on the bench so that will be interesting to watch.

2027: Stowers (OH - 6 rotation), Fitch (OH - 6 rotation), Castle (MB), Sharp (MB), Incinelli (RS), Morris (RS), Peterson (Setter), Applegate (DS), Rodriguez (Libero)

Role TBD: Musgrove (can't imagine she stays if she wants to be a setter), Lacewell, Stanojevic, Manning, Hernandez, Thedford, Patton

Obviously there will be some transfers out and likely some impact transfers in as well. Incinelli is going to be hard to keep of the court and will likely be a day 1 starter with Peterson as well. The question is whether she will be a RS or OH. Fitch could move over to OH if Incinelli is better as a RS. Given her background as a middle, and her height, that may make more sense.

2028: Ogbogu (OH - 6 rotation), Fitch (OH - 6 rotation), Castle (MB), Sharp (MB), Incinelli (RS), Morris (RS), Peterson (Setter), Applegate (DS), Rodriguez (Libero)

Role TBD: Lacewell, Hernandez, Thedford, Patton, Mortensen, Frazier

Incredible continuity and replacing Stowers with Ogbogu is massive. It's certainly possible (and looks likely) that the rest of the key members of the 2027 team are all back in 2028. I'd say 2027 and 2028 are prime years for another National Championship in Aggieland. Hopefully 2026 is as well!

Obviously the portal is going to play a big role as well but with the talent we have on the court it is going to be hard to get someone to come in and be an immediate impact player if these players are as good as we think they are going to be!
