Locker Room Chat: Fabyon Harris says it's time to grow up

On starting for the first time this season…
“It felt good to start for my first game this year. You know, I came in this year and lost a lot of confidence in my jump shot, and the coaches recognized that. They just said, ‘You just got to keep working, keep working hard, your time will come.’ I just kept working on my jump shot and getting better and he decided to start me so that’s how its going to be.”

On how important he is to the group as the only scholarship senior and the lack of point guards…
“I’m a very important piece, because last year during conference play I kind of picked up my game. Coach knows I’m a veteran, so I can be out there running the point or play off the ball. Like you said, I am a senior, and the guys look up to me, so I can lead them in conference play.

On finding ways to get Kourtney Roberson involved offensively…
“Well, we just have to keep doing what we’re doing and keep throwing it down to him, and they’re going to keep doubling him, and he’s going to keep making plays. If they bring two guys on him, he’s going to throw it off. If there’s one guy, he’s going to go to work. He’s very important to our team. Very important. Because like you said, he’s got a lot of experience. And right now, teams are playing zone on us because our outside threes are not consistent, but we’re going to get there. When they get rolling, then we can throw it back in there some more.

"Kourtney doesn’t care about scoring. He already told us that. He’s all about winning. There’s a few more guys, like myself, that just want to win. It’s not all about points. We knew coming into this season that there wasn’t going to be one guy that was going to for 30 like last year with Elston Turner. It was going to be balanced scoring. So we throw the ball down there, and Kourtney is going to make a good decision. He’s either going to throw it out or finish or get fouled and go to the free throw line.”

On Davonte Fitzgerald’s potential and future…
“In my eyes, in two years or three, Davonte is going to be a pro. And I’ve told him that. He’s actually my roommate, and I always tell him, ‘Davonte, don’t lose confidence. Just keep going and your time is going to come. Keep working on your game and keep getting up shots and things are going to work out for you.’”

On Fitzgerald forgetting to put his jersey on and his second half spark…
“Actually, I saw it out of the corner of my eye. I kind of was like, ‘Did he really not have his jersey on?’ Then he came back and said he didn’t have his jersey on. I said, ‘You went back and got it, and that’s a good thing — so let’s focus in.’ He’s a good player that doesn’t lack confidence. He’s going to keep shooting, keep attacking, keep rebounding, and he got a key block in the second half. He’s a good ball player.”

On the key moving forward in conference play…
“It’s time to put our grown man pants on, because right now it’s grown man basketball. The preseason is over after tonight and, I don’t want to say we are playing little kids, but we are playing some teams that are not good as the teams that are coming up. Every game we play from now on, there will be a lot guys that are pros on these teams, and a lot of very physical guys. Like I said, grown man basketball.”

The most obvious way the team played grown up was on the boards. I thought we really battled there.
