A&M softball triumphs over Missouri State closing the Aggie Classic
The Aggies closed out the Aggie Classic with a win over Missouri State, 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. With the win, A&M finished the tournament 4-1 and pushed their overall record to 7-2.
Senior Rachel Fox led things off in the circle during the top of the first inning, letting just two runners on, with no scores allowed. In the bottom of the first inning, a collision with the first baseman resulted in the first out for Brittany Clopton. April Ryan was walked on a 4-0 count, followed by freshmen Tori Vidales who hit a grounder that just rolled into fair territory, sending Ryan home for the first run of the game.
The Aggies advanced their lead in the third inning with a run made by Cali Lanphear, with help from Breanna Dozier who hit the ball deep into right center.
The bears didn’t back down in the top of the fifth, scoring one run on a wild pitch.
Neither team scored the last two innings, thanks in part to Fox striking out the side in the top of the sixth, ultimately resulting in the Aggies taking the close win 2-1.
A&M is back at the Aggie Softball Complex on Wednesday to hunt down the Oregon Ducks at 4:30.
