Keith Mitchell on his charity initiatives, time at A&M and in the NFL
During Wednesday's edition of TexAgs Radio, former A&M LB Keith Mitchell joined the show to discuss his Light It Up Foundation and Just Breathe For Veterans Campaign before reminiscing on his time at A&M and in the NFL.
Starting this August, LIU aims to have scheduled its first 250 patients (50/50 NFL/Vets) to go through our program. It costs $16,500 per patient which includes two retreats that consist of two days of evaluations by a the top neurological team in the world led by Dr. Dorsey (He was just given an award by the White House for leadership in medicine last week). Following the first two days there, care plan recipients will experience a three-day retreat led by Keith and two amazing MD's teaching mindfulness, yoga and a variety of holistic techniques.
After the retreat the patients will stay connected to Rochester and Keith through Telemedicine (URMC version of medical Skype) that URMC pioneered with Apple and other technology companies. This allows the patients to have periodic follow-up checkups in the comfort of their own home. Evaluations will continue in the second retreat a year later to determine progress and success.
The total cost of the program (including 10% for LIU to cover overhead costs to administer the plan) is $8.2 million.
