Hard to Move On: LSU & the true John Chavis Effect

HOOVER, Ala. — Down in Louisiana jazz is cool, gumbo is spicy, beignets are sweet.
And grapes are sour.
Those grapes have been especially tart since Jan. 7 when John Chavis left LSU and was named defensive coordinator at Texas A&M.
Since then, seemingly everyone from Shreveport to Venice is angry. Chavis is viewed with derision. The consensus is Chavis wasn’t that good anyway. LSU fans have repeated: “Third and Chavis” more than Mardi Gras revelers repeat: “Show your wits.” Or something like that.
But a question keeps coming into my mind.
