Texas A&M Women's Basketball upends SFA, 63-48
In spite of a slow start, Texas A&M Women's Basketball ended Sunday night with a 63-48 victory over the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks. With the win, the Aggies moved to 4-0 to start the season – the fourth consecutive year they've reached the mark.
From the moment the game started, it was clear the Aggies were a little off. Stand-out shooter Danni Williams, who produced 32 points for Texas A&M in their match-up against Texas Tech last Thursday, scored only three points in the first half.
Despite a second-half surge, the Aggies struggled to maintain momentum. Texas A&M ended the game with 22 turnovers committed by what coach Gary Blair called his "top six players."
"It was just a bad night," Blair said. "There's no excuse for the forced turnovers."
Stephen F. Austin came out of the gates on fire. For the majority of the first half, the Ladyjacks went shot-for-shot with Texas A&M. With the Aggies playing below their usual standard, it seemed as though Stephen F. Austin could pull off an upset.
However, in the final 20 minutes of play, the Aggies started to extend their lead over the Ladyjacks. Williams, who had started the game in an uncharacteristic shooting slump, eventually warmed up.
"I was not shooting the ball the first half," Williams said. "They came out more aggressive and more energized than we did (in the first half). They slapped us in the mouth, and we just kind of had to recover from that. We had to rally together."
Williams scored 17 of the Aggies' 46 points in the second half.

"I was pleased with how (Williams) responded in the second half," Blair said. "(She) started off slow but finished good like good shooters can.
"We had the better team," he added. "They probably had a better game plan and executed the game plan better than we did.
"We controlled the rebound, and that's what won the game."
Texas A&M had 49 total rebounds compared to the Ladyjacks' 25. Sophomore Anriel Howard led the team in rebounds, collecting 15.
Although the win was less than picture-perfect, Blair is confident in what his team will bring to the court for the duration of the season.
"We know where we are talent-wise because we can see it in practice every day," he said. "We know what we have to do to get better. We're going to see better athletes, taller athletes, and quicker athletes as the year goes on."
Up next, Texas A&M will match up with Arkansas-Little Rock in Arkansas on November 23rd at 6:30 p.m.
