Aggie Softball run-rules New Mexico, defeats Missouri State
The Texas A&M Aggies extended their winning streak to nine games during day two of the Texas A&M Invitational, recording a 10-1, run-rule victory over New Mexico in five innings and beating Missouri State in an afternoon tilt, 8-2.
New Mexico scored one in the top of the second before Aggie sophomore Samantha Show crushed her second homer of the season to center field in the bottom half of the inning, sending junior catcher Ashley Walters in to give the Aggies a 2-1 lead.
The Ags kept it going in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs.
Walters knocked Tori Vidales in with a triple to center field before freshman Sarah Hudek doubled to left field to score pinch runner Blake-Ann Fritsch. A&M triggered the mercy rule when Celena Massey singled to center field, loading bases again and scoring Hudek.
Later in the afternoon, the Aggies played the Missouri State Bears for the second time in two days, defeating them, 8-2.
Tori Vidales knocked a home run into left center to give the Aggies an early lead in the bottom of the second.
Later, with bases loaded, the Aggies broke the a tie game when Show singled through the left side, advancing the runners and scoring Walters. Then Kristen Cuyos hit her first home run of the season over the center field wall, scoring two.
The Aggies put one more on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Runners at first and second advanced due to a wild pitch, and Milligan scored from third on a throwing error made by the Bear catcher.
A&M will be back in action Sunday at 11:00 a.m. They'll take on Stephen F. Austin on the final day of the Texas A&M Invitational.
